Re: Labophot fine focus shaft replacement - how to remove coarse focus knob
I used CA 'Krazy' glue - just 6 dots - and filed a lttle recess at one spot on the rim of the cover to make it easier to get off next time.

Re: Labophot fine focus shaft replacement - how to remove coarse focus knob
OK, yes, got a small blade under it and it popped off. Thanks. If you need the reapir manual, I have it, but it´s 18Mb size Yes, I would like a copy of that manual - I have one that I got here but it could be better - seems to be lacking some images, etc. I think I will try hot-melt glue on reassemb...

Labophot fine focus shaft replacement - how to remove coarse focus knob
I have a Labophot with failed plastic fine focus gear, received replacement gear/shaft from Microscope Solutions, am trying to install shaft. I need help removing the metal cover plate over the coarse focus knob. The instructions I have from here say there is a recess in the edge of the metal cover ...

Re: Adjust Labophot lamp output? trim pot?
I decided to put an LED in place of the bulb. For now, I'm keeping all the original parts on the scope except the bulb and the fuse, the fuse removed for precaution as will be apparent. I mounted the LED on a 1" square piece of 1/4" thick rubber (auto body bondo squeegee) and stuck two pieces of wir...

Re: Adjust Labophot lamp output? trim pot?
Possibly, the pot needs to be cleaned. I have some contact cleaner and am familiar with cleaning pots - I'll clean the pot, and if that doesn't change anything try the LED route. It would be easy to mount a little LED chip in place of the halogen bulb, and put the controls outside the microscope ba...

Re: Adjust Labophot lamp output? trim pot?
Looking at picture 1, top left, of the Arizona.edu site of the disassembled Labophot, I see the illumination intensity dial set at '5' and the lamp glowing a dull amber which is about what mine does. Maybe that is normal? And as it appears that there is no PCB ! mentioned - that conflicts with the m...

Adjust Labophot lamp output? trim pot?
I have a new-to-me biological Labophot with the standard halogen lamp which appears to not be as bright as it could/should. It does light up pretty brightly on max setting of on/off/adjustment wheel, but is out completely when turning down past the '4' value on the wheel. I checked the bulb, it is a...

Re: Best quality budget imaging for binocular Nikon Labophot-2
I tried the 'F' head with the short chimney (what I called 'Variant 1' above) with a 38mm to C-mount adapter and appropriate camera adapter, in my case a Canon M200 mirrorless APS-C. It is exactly parfocal with the eyepieces, and gives decent images that may be limited by chromatic aberration due to...

Re: Best quality budget imaging for binocular Nikon Labophot-2
OK, there were 3 hex screws, not 2, and by loosening them the upper chimney just pulls straight up and off, revealing a 38mm ID tube. I have one of the D10NLC adapters that I use on my Wild M7A for connecting a mirrorless camera, and this fits into the F head tube. I will see how parfocal it is with...

Re: Best quality budget imaging for binocular Nikon Labophot-2
I bought a 'Variant 1' 'F' head and want to proceed with my plan to try direct projection. Does the upper chimney come off simply by loosening these two 2.5mm hex screws? Is anything going to pop out at me when I do - springs, bearings, etc?

Re: Best quality budget imaging for binocular Nikon Labophot-2
If you get a Nikon trinocular "F" head, of which there are several on U.S. eBay for < $100, then it can be directly adapted for mirrorless camera body by removing its photo "chimney" and replacing that with an M42 to 38mm tube https://www.ebay.com/itm/274696367794 along with a thin M42 or T2 adapte...

Say I want to search the forum for a topic like 'Zeiss Standard RA' and not those separate words individually. Can I enter a multi-word search argument? I've tried a couple approaches using single and double quotes, wild cards, etc. but can't get it to work. Thanks.

the 0.330-inch spacer places its image sensor some distance above a C-mount's usual image plane It's possible to get the camera parfocal with almost all incorrect eyepieces I have to get excited about this. Re: Wild phototubes and their use with/ without eyepiece
Could the less sharp images and (extra?) strong vignetting of the M200 indicate the 0.330-inch spacer places its image sensor some distance above a C-mount's usual image plane? I admit to incomplete understanding of the optics involved, but I am using the same .330 spacer with both the Canon and th...

Re: Wild phototubes and their use with/ without eyepiece
I've now tried 2 mirrorless cameras with the Wild M7A/phototube direct projection method - an APS-C (Canon M200) and a micro 4/3 (Olympus Pen E-PL7) - and would like to post some pictures. In order to test the Micro 4/3, I had to spend some thought re. the C-mount to M 4/3 adapter 'spin down' proble...

Koolite substage illuminator - bulb replacement
A friend gave me a Steindorff scope that I have been cleaning up and putting into usable condition. It has a substage illuminator 'Koolite' which works adequately at magnifications up to about 250x, but beyond that it doesn't seem to have enough brightness. Pictures of the Koolite here . It has a st...

Re: Can the same videography quality be achieved from a binocular head compared to a trinocular head?
My mirrorless 24mp camera cost very little, in fact less than little and is transferable to any microscope I have that I care to photograph through. The coupling is universal to all the photo tubes. I assume therefore that your setup is afocal? Can you show details of your coupling? I'd love to hav...

Re: Full electronic shutter vs. normal shutter
Regarding the M cameras specifically, all M cameras except for the M6 II use EFCS as their primary shooting mode. I tested my M200 as you describe, and it has EFCS. Knowing that is really helpful. Thanks. It also offers a 'Quiet' mode, which I suppose is full electronic shutter, but I can't test th...

Re: Full electronic shutter vs. normal shutter
Finding a camera with EFCS - it can be hard to tell even from the camera documentation if full electronic shutter or EFCS is available for shooting without a lens i.e. direct projection. My Canon M200 has an electronic shutter, but it only functions in 'Quiet' mode, which prevents shutter release wi...

Re: Wild M7A questions: interpupillary distance, how to clean phototube lens, change occulars
If I may add a couple more questions. First, my Wild is not parfocal throughout the zoom range, and needs large focus adjustment from minimum to maximum zoom. I assume this is because of the 16x occulars, and is not a problem for me, but more a theoretical question. Second, I have the photoport set ...

This means that the user must use the 'back arrow' on their browser to return to the forum post. It would be useful to have an option to open a link in a different win...

Re: LED white balance and blue/green artifacts
I did a comparison of the LED with a Xenon-bulb mini-mag flashlight - I'm willing to believe that I need a better light source than the AmScope LED. The LED has distinctly more purple fringing than the Mini Mag, and that flashlight is very marginally qualified for what I am doing with it. I set the ...
