Re: Motorized Rotating Display Stand

You don't know what a record player is, BKT? The model I'm looking at is a Modular Component Systems MCS 6601. It has a direct drive DC brushless motor and has set speeds of 33.33 rpm and 45 rpm.

Re: Motorized Rotating Display Stand

 I just remembered my dad has more than one record player and it fits my needs. All I have to do is make a small platform to cover the spindle.

Re: Motorized Rotating Display Stand

My current setup is an old computer fan connected to a potentiometer. When I have it running slow, the pen slows it down further to a complete stop. When I have it running faster, the paint no longer stays in nice circles. What I'm looking for is something with constant torque and preferably electri...

Motorized Rotating Display Stand

I was thinking of getting one of these on Amazon for making circular obliques and darkfield stops using paint pens. These can also be used for slide ringing. Any thoughts on this? https://www.amazon.com/JAYEGT-Motorized-Rotating-Turntable-Photography/dp/B08K35HPJ4/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1Q25V5PMFVN38&dib=e...

Re: eBay Catch-22 Login Problem

Fixed my problem. I logged into eBay with an account that I knew worked (my dad's account) and that reset the login screen for me. Let me explain. eBay keeps track of IP addresses used for each account. An IP address is your computer's exact location in the world wide web. When you use a different c...

eBay Catch-22 Login Problem

I recently got an email from eBay saying my account has not been used in more than 2 years (true) and would be deleted in 30 days for security purposes if I don't login in said 30 days. I had forgotten my password but was able to change it. The problem is eBay now uses text-based verification for ad...

I have a question Rob, On your website you said you used Scotch tape for retarder / wave plates (bottom of this page) https://www.canadiannaturephotographer.com/art-and-science-photomicrography-polarized-light.html Are you referring to the red label transparent Scotch tape? All I have on hand is dou...

Re: Micro Safari Aqua

I think it is 2 to 3 pieces of acrylic glued together and a resealable film of LDPE to allow gas exchange while holding in water vapor. I don't know if this can be used with polarized light microscopy. Also, flushing it out with peroxide would be safer than using alcohol as alcohol destroys acrylic.

Olympus UIS2 Objective Finder

When using this "online catalogue" you will notice the labeling on the objective doesn't exactly match what is on the website. For example: PLAN N 4x is PLN4X. I can't seem to find my PlanC N 4x though.

No prices listed.

Expanding Darkfield Stop

The reason these aren't made anymore is that they are expensive to make and they tend to be fragile due to the small parts they contain. Remember Shrinky Dinks? I'm not sure if using heat-shrunk polystyrene would make good rheinberg filters, but it might make decent darkfield and oblique filters. Give me your thoughts.

Advice On Buying Parts On eBay

I would like to know about avoiding scammers on eBay. For instance, if I find a seller who salvages microscopes and sells the parts at a fraction of MSRP but has zero negative and zero neutral feedback should that be a red flag and the seller should be avoided or is it a possible sign the seller is ...

According to Josef Prusa, transparent filament can be printed to optical quality as seen in his video:

An SLA printer is required for color and rheinberg filters. Alcohol dyes can be used to color transparent resin as seen in this video:

Re: Olympus U-CA

Thanks for the small lesson on numerical aperture. Multiplying the N.A. number by 1000 makes perfect sense especially since the maximum limit of light microscopy is 1500x and the largest N.A. of any 100x oil objective I have seen so far is 1.45 https://www.spachoptics.com/NIKON-MRD01905-p/nikon-plan...

Olympus U-CA

Before I consider getting one I would like to know if the magnification changer causes any image quality problems. Also, if the numerical aperture has to be increased for the objective being used. If I get a 60x objective I can "boost" it up to 120x by setting the U-CA to 2x?
