Cleaning Glued Optics Question

I have this optics piece that is just after the eyepiece in a Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope. I am trying to clean it as I see a significant smudge in it. It consists of three triangular prisms glued together. The smudge looks like it is between two of the glued together prisms. So I assume that to ...

Re: Normal Minimum Size of Aperture

Thanks. That could work. But I'm still curious about the minimum diagraphm aperture size. What should the minimum diaphragm aperture size actually be?

Normal Minimum Size of Aperture

I have a Nikon Diaphot inverted microscope, and I've been trying to get it into Köhler illumination which involves closing the aperture iris diaphragm as small as possible. On my microscope it closes to about 1.5 mm in diameter. My question is: Is this normal for this microscope or should it close t...

Re: Question: Stereo Microscope Eyepiece Substance

I found this brand Nye damping grease that looks good. But, what type of Nye damping grease should I use for this application? It looks like they sell many kinds with different viscosities.

Question: Stereo Microscope Eyepiece Substance

I have a Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope, and I recently dismantled and cleaned the eyepiece assembly. The eyepiece assembly consists of a cylindrical tube that fits within another tube. The inner tube rotates against the outer tube so as to allow the eyepiece to be moved in and out. There was some s...

Question: Plant Cell Separation

I have a question. Lets say you have the leaf of some plant and you want to separate the cells from one another so that you can image with a microscope a single freely suspended cell that is not attached to any other cells. How do you separate the cells to accomplish this? My understanding is that p...

Question about coverslips

I have a Nikon diaphot inverted microscope, and I've been trying to view some liquid entrained samp les with a 100x oil emersion objective standard working distance. I used a microscope slide, put a drop on it and covered it with a coverslip. I the flipped it upside down an put it on the stage so th...

Re: Focus Question About Stereo Microscope Camera

To clarify, when you zoom in and out does the image remain in focus? If not the position of the eyepieces needs to be adjusted a bit. Using a 0.5x eyepiece adapter as in the second setup is probably the way to go. If you're lucky the camera can be made parfocal by raising the adapter just a little ...

Another question to get out of the way, are your eyepieces set up to be parfocal throughout the entire zoom range?
Here are the three pieces that came with the camera.

Re: Focus Question About Stereo Microscope Camera

Another question to get out of the way, are your eyepieces set up to be parfocal throughout the entire zoom range? I don't know if they are parfocal or not. Below are two pictures of them. I just insert them directly into the eyepiece with no other thing attached. 20211221_203735.jpg 20211221_20374...

Re: Focus Question About Stereo Microscope Camera

Are you using the .5x reducer that comes with the MU503B? I'm not sure exactly. I first tried attaching the camera by screwing a silver metal attachment directly into the camera as shown in the pictures below. 20211221_202342.jpg 20211221_202400.jpg 20211221_202438.jpg 20211221_202520.jpg This fit ...

Focus Question About Stereo Microscope Camera

I have a Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope, and I recently purchased an Amscope MU503B digital camera to attach to it. I used a 1x metal adapter that screwed into the digital camera on one end and on the other end the adapter properly slid into the SMZ-10 stereo microscope's camera port (it says D10NLC...

Question about Microscope serviceability

I'm thinking about buying a microscope, most likely an inverted one, for doing cross polarization measurements of birefringent materials. Given my budget, I'd most likely be purchasing a cheap new Chinese or Indian-made one or a used old quality-made one off Ebay. My question is, what companies are ...
