Re: The Air Plant

I have a couple of air plants that simply sit in small trays on the kitchen windowsill. I spray them with water once a week and they seem to do OK. 👍🏼

Re: I got tossed.....

Hello Paul, that’s very frustrating. I lost a post for what, I now think, must have been a similar reason. I can’t offer you any insight as to time outs but I can offer my sympathy.

Don’t let it put you off.

By sheer coincidence someone posted this on Facebook overnight although I guess there’s a chance the lights may be unsuitable for video: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Amateur.Microscopy/permalink/1716310911883650/ I have found one I hope to buy for sale locally on FB marketplace so, fingers cross...

@Charles ... Wow! If only I had a room like that!! @PeteM ... Something like that would probably work quite well and I may end up going that way. @Greg ... England is currently in lock-down. 2nd hand stores, charity shops and the like have all been closed since January 4th. There is to be a review o...

Re: Comparing Light Sources Looking at Plant Cells

I won't pretend to know anything about video but a quick search for 'Strobing on video' throws up a lot of fixes. Some depend on buying plug-ins and others work with the editing software you use and appear to work by creating multiple copies of the video, then overlaying them one frame out of phase....

Re: Comparing Light Sources Looking at Plant Cells

I enjoyed that, Don. I didn't realise you used top & side illumination for most of your videos, I've noticed that many of them have flickering lines that drift down the screen but these do not appear late on in this video when you used substage illumination. Is there some sort of conflict between th...

Re: My First Ever Tardigrade Video

Lovely stuff Howard. I've yet to catch a Tardigrade but I have moss and lichen aplenty so it's only a matter of time.

I also fancy a stereo microscope but I think I'll have to wait for my birthday or xmas - if I bought one now, so soon after buying my Swift, I think she'd kill me! 😂

Carry/Storage Case For Swift 380T

I added this to my Hey, I've got a Swift 380T thread under the My Microscope topic but it got no response so I thought I'd try here... I can't fault the microscope, particularly at the price, however one thing that I've discovered as an inconvenience is storage space. I'm not lucky enough to have an...

It is worth paying for the delivery of high-quality equipment. It is not cheap and good. And it never did. It's important to understand that good things will always come at a premium.
My point precisely. 👍🏼

Re: "New" eyepiece technology to eliminate "floaters"

I have a lot of floaters in my right eye. Not much of a problem during normal activities but boy do they show up when I use my microscope. I'm hoping I will be able to 'tune them out' over time.

Re: Another Swift 380T Owner Take #2

One thing that I've discovered is an inconvenience is storage space. I'm not lucky enough to have an office or 'man-cave' so need to put it away when it's not in use. A storage box or case would be great however the only ones I've found online so far cost around ⅘ of what I paid for the microscope. ...

Re: Dating a vintage microscope?

Ah, that looks very much like the same model of toy microscope I had as a kid back in 1970 or 71. It came in a small pine box with a fairly blunt scalpel, some tweezers, a couple of slides and a couple of other bits.

Another Swift 380T Owner Take #2

I finally got around to unpacking my Swift 380T and having a few moments to see what it can do. A very kind member here sent me some slides they had prepared so that I had something available to view and to use as a reference point. I was simply blown away by both the quality of those slides and the...
