Re: Crystals - Callus remover, Compoun W etc Methods
B alinine and L glutamate are my favorite to take pictures of. I tried callous remover, but in the past probably wasn’t getting it thin enough. I’ll try the cover slip spreading method. I’ve thought about just diluting with more diethyl ether.

Re: Tests with polarizing filters
On some samples I use just one layer of polarizing film over the field diaphragm. It seems to help with some lighting. It can reduce aberration.

Re: Closterium
I agree. The green of algaes under the scope is one of my favorite colors. I haven’t sampled the field ditches yet. When the weather changes I will. One algae I haven’t seen yet is volvox. Need to find a source.

I’m with mrsonchus. I never use preset focus lines. You can’t count on that distance actually focusing on anything but protoplasm.

Re: Crystallization of ABE liquid in real time
That’s cool. I’m in the USA and haven’t been able to get ABE here. I thought about combining salicylic acid and lactose acid in the same proportions, but haven’t done it yet. I think it’s .83 g of each in a gram of diet Hal ether.

Where I live, they refer to that as the excrement of a male bovine.

Re: Micro crystalline photos
Yes. I mix a little chemical in water or alcohol, and put them in eye droppers. Place on slide and heat over a candle for a few minutes. This is urea tartaric acid. If your interested, google Loes Moderman and micro crystalline photography. She has some nice articles. https://i.postimg.cc/bJ1G569B/0...

Re: Astronomer Considering Microscopy
Hi. I’m a newbie to the group also. I’ve got an Olympus BH2 BHTU. It has S and D plan objectives. I worked with microscopes before when I worked in labs, and after I retired I decided to get a scope. I originally bought an inexpensive microscope and eventually found the BH2 on EBay and watched video...

Re: Platyias Quadricornis
I used DF filter, but don’t have oil condenser. I think some of the noise comes from sliding histogram marker to the left toward the center for more light. I made a DF patch holder that positions the patch about a quarter inch below the condenser. If I opened the condenser more to get better light i...
