Re: Among the Growing Roots
Don, Here is a video with color that I took 5 years ago under a 70x NA 1.23 objective, without any software modification. You are certainly right in that its color reproduction is not as vibrant as a good 10x: https://youtu.be/a1BYrzTF60M However, we should see at least some green (chlorophyll), bro...

Re: Among the Growing Roots
Don,
Sorry to be so blunt, however: there should be some colors in those subjects you recorded in videos.
I think your condenser may be set too low; or condenser iris / illuminator field iris closed down too much.
I like your poems and enthusiasm, by the way!
Sincerely,
Frank

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
Today was a good day, I received both the KIP2 which looks new and also a few Nikon PlanApos... :D These are preliminary tests (I smashed the poor thing); condenser just placed on top fo the BHT condenser holder, MIP5 far from centred and system not parfocal. I tested the CFN 10, 20 and 40 planApos...

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
So PZO head dovetail is around 44mm, since Olympus head dovetail is 42mm? That is not good news for a Nikon owner like me, who has 48.5mm head dovetails. If one adapter adds 8mm tube length and I need two, that means 16mm tube length increase! I think I wouldn't use adapter for my scope then, I can ...

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
Can MIP5's dovetail be shimmed up or down to fit Olympus arm? Maybe add a few small pieces of wood / aluminum foil or something? 2mm doesn't sound a lot, if MIP5 is smaller (sorry, I haven't followed up carefully to know if MIP5 is bigger or smaller for Olympus). I am guessing one can sand off 1mm f...

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
It depends on what (tube length) you have after the MIP5.
If it is an unmodified Olympus trinocular head, then tube length should be perfect.
Or you can use extension tubes of the right length for camera only and sacrifice visual viewing from visual eyepieces.

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
Found a KPI2 like new, 210€; a bit under 600€ with the MIP5 Seller may have some more if someone interested, ships from Poland Saul made me an adapter for the MIP5 to the BHT microscope, I will use just tubes on top of it with the camera to be completely parfocal Looking forward to put it to work.....

If phase annulus is moved closer to condenser bottom lens (for example it can be stuck there using double-sided tape), DIY phase images should improve further.

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I would be happy to buy such a variable reversed aperture as well. I had Leitz Heine before. It has internal mirror walls that reflect light and corrects distortions. A simple hollow light ring would only block light and won't work as well as Heine, but it should work, assuming light source is powef...

Re: Using aluminium tape to make spacers for water sample specimens
Many people use petroleum jelly, because you can press it to make it thinner and it kind of prevents water from leaking.
Aluminum foil for oven cooking, transparent tape, plastic fil wraps, may also work, depending on your sample thickness.

I don't know if these count:
1) the fact that water bears are nearly immortal;
2) how cancer cells can survive most (several lines of treatments) of the modern therapeutics.
These are research and theories on those. But we are not completely clear yet.

Re: Looking for a good m4/3 camera for focus stacking
Hans, I did compared E-M1 on the same subject at the same time, full electronic shutter vs EFCS. Then pixel peeped. EFCS resolved quite a bit better. Full electronic shutter seemed to produce much more noise grains, at the same iso. I have Panasonic G85 before, did the same test and did NOT see a si...

Re: Looking for a good m4/3 camera for focus stacking
Javier, that crop ratio sounds about right. If your current mirrorless APSC camera works well, there is probably no point to change it. My Nikon Optiphot did get shaken at high magnification by my camera's 2nd mechanical shutter; I saw it in flipped up camera LCD. But my water mount was not too thin...

Re: Looking for a good m4/3 camera for focus stacking
Do not get Olympus E-M1 mk1. Its images are noticeably worse in full electronic shutter mode, than EFSC. Focus stacking with EFSC won't work very well, if your subject is in thick water mount under high magnification. Even that 2nd shutter shock may (or may not) move the subject and ruin the next im...

Re: Parfocal extender
Giulio, I have used those short 32.7mm LOMO objectives on Nikon Labophot 2 and Optiphot 1. I usually have a full turret of 5 short LOMO apo objectives on the same turret. Instead of using parfocal extenders (which significantly degrades high NA objective performance), I raised up my Labophot / Optip...

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
Are you sure your tube length is off (why would it be off, since MIP5 compensates its added own tube length)? I would think it is right on at 160mm, as long as your original (without PZO) tube length is correct. 1.25x magnifier intermefiate piece should go after the MIP-5, I would guess, although I ...

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
Do not modify the MIP5 unit any further, for now. Quite a few things sound unusual there (the metal piece inside, the decentering and the ghosting). Is your seller reputable? I would suggest you also post at the other forum to ask: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=25&sid=6af6d6b...

Re: Hello and any pre-purchase 2-cents?
To add to PeteM's comment: With DIC set to maximum contrast, you most likely don't need darkfield. And a darkfield slider (which would barely work for 40x NA 0.65 objective) is nowhere as good as dedicated cardioid or paraboloid darkfield condenser (will will work for an 100x iris objective). You ma...

Re: Hello and any pre-purchase 2-cents?
Welcome Jenny, With 4k USD, you should be able to get a used Zeiss or American Optical DIC scope that provide better imaging that that AccuScope. Apo objectives are more important for objective NA of 0.5 and more. Under that, achromats are perfectly capable under DIC. Save 1k for y ou or USB camera....

Compatibility/ versatility wise, MIP5 head unit > MIP3 head > MIP2 unit.

MIP2 head has two protruding knobs and may not be easy to modify for non-PZO scopes.

Re: Using PZO accessories with Lomo Biolam setup
Hello, Dave. Is your Biolam the large stand or the portable stand (there are quite a few of them named "Biolam")? I have a small portable Biolam and I don't think it offers enough under-stage space around its condenser mount. I will only buy the MIP5 head, as its vertical adjustment is more versatil...
