Great video ! Please keep them coming. I can’t get enough of microscopy videos. My scope is currently gathering dust since we moved, so I just look for vids on utube.

Enjoyed the video, Don. I really enjoy watching protists live their lives.
Is that a microscope t- shirt? Looks like there may be stars in the background?
Look forward to your videos, please keep them coming,
Jim.

Congratulations Greg! Is that the one with a 30watt halogen bulb? I’m pretty sure it’s one of the ones I was researching.
Can’t wait to see how you like.

Micro,
Thanks for the tip. I wonder if that is duckweed, at least I know what that looks like. Time for a trip to the pond!
I just found your channel on u-tube and you have a new subscriber, please keep the videos coming!

Do you know what species they are? They’re shaped like Coleps, but I think they are too small and too fast.

Ross, sorry for your leech experience, Yikes! Thanks for making me google billabong, just learned something today! Maybe you could buy some waders? I like the idea of getting a small 1-2 gallon aquarium and putting all jars into one vessel and not introducing my samples to the outside environment. I...

Re: Predator and Prey Didinium versus Paramecium
RobBerdan, Beautiful images, Rob. I have only seen 1 Didinium and it came from a pond. Only saw it for a few seconds before it swam behind some “schmutz “ and I never saw it again. I’m sure it was one as soon as I saw the proboscis in front. I have only been an amateur microscopist for a month now, ...

I’m thinking about a 20X someday. Perhaps for Father’s Day. My dark field condenser is a dry one and only works really well at 40X and 100X. At 400X you can see the quality of the image starts to suffer. Maybe an oil condenser instead for Father’s Day!

I would like to get everyone’s input into caring for your jars full of microbes. There are currently 5 jars on my front porch, which faces south , but I keep them out of direct sunlight. Is this right, or should I let them get a few hours of it? 2nd question: feeding. How often and how much? I used ...

Re: New water sample, wow!
farnsy, Seeding my koi pond is something that I have considered, however I’m unsure as to the consequences. For example, if I have a pond with a lot of Paramecium and I introduced Didinium ,the Paramecium would be all eaten. I think I will start a new thread about critter care. I would like to have ...

Re: Pls help me spend my money!
farnsy, I just responded to another post regarding the 20X objective. I think it would have been a better choice for me. I rarely use my 40X or 60X objectives. I have a hard time chasing critters at 100X and the jump from 100X to 400X seems too much for me. Greg, darn it, I already spent the money. ...

farnsy, thanks for the nod toward the 20X objective. I did buy a 60X dry to replace the 100X oil. Now I’m thinking the 20X might have been a better choice. I rarely use the 40X or 60X. Too bad I don’t have 5 ports for objectives!

Re: Where do you find Stentors?
Thanks Crusty.
That’s a possibility. If I don’t find a Stentor by late fall, I could wait until just before the pond freezes and grab some samples then. Hopefully I won’t have to wait that long.

New water sample, wow!
My wife drove me to the local pond 2 days ago for a new water sample. I love my koi pond in the back yard, but I wanted to see some new species. I wasn’t disappointed. I have seen many Euglena in my old samples, but I saw a trophy sized one in the new water. I’m talking “mount it and hang it on the ...

I know what you’re experiencing! The different species showing up in the same sample where they were nowhere to be seen the day before. It’s amazing and puzzling and also very cool.
