Re: Question?

If you are using a concave slide, it may not be possible to focus on some things at the bottom of the concavity. I have a 47.5x that has an adjustment collar for different coverslip thicknesses, and even then the useful range is still give or take a tenth of a millimeter Ohhh, I see, that's cool! I...

Re: Question?

To add to what 75RR said, as magnification goes up the working distance tends to go down. With higher power objectives it's possible to have media that's too thick to view all the way to the bottom of the specimen. I have some slides of ticks which are troublesome with the 100x oil as the specimen ...

Re: Question?

. In general, the higher the magnification the closer to the cover slip the objective tends to be. Always work up to the maximum magnification, i.e. start with your 4x (good to scan the cover slip and get an overall of view of things), then move up to 10x, then the 20x if you have one, followed by ...

Question?

So I was trying the use the 40x objective and it would only show white... But then it worked after I moved the coarse focusing. The objective is literally touching the coverslip though, is that normal? Are objectives usually supposed to touch the coverslips? With 4x and 10x I didn't need to touch th...

I made a Discord server for microscopy. I didn't know where to post this. I thought it'd be cool to be able to talk in real-time over chat with people who also like microscopy! https://discord.gg/p2DwTsgN Also... Ok, so I ordered my microscope and the slides and coverslips and now I'm confused. I heard I had to clean the coverslips and slides before use even if it's pre-cleaned so I took them all out but then there was this paper thingy in between each of the slides and surrounding the coverslips. Re: I need help-

. Not all slides and cover slips need cleaning out of the box, that is only necessary if they come quite dirty. If they look clean i.e. not foggy, then you are good to go. Put them back in the box! If you are going to reuse the slides and or cover slips then see link bellow. https://www.microbehunt...

Re: Beginner Looking to Buy First Miscroscope (and Record)

I have never owned my own microscope before, however my fondest memories of my labs in my undergrad was whenever we would drag those bad boys out. I got quite comfortable with using the models they provided (not sure which models exactly) but while I understand the parts of a microscope and how to ...

So I'm probably being annoying with all these questions, but what is the CPC cap thingy on the T490B? https://youtu.be/oGHTM8-SfTc?t=473 Is that just a dust cap? Also, how is the light split between the trinocular port and the ocular port? Can you control it? Edit: I just realized that I've posted 2...

Re: Decision: Amscope T400A-30W Any thoughts?

You may have tipped the scales, Louise. Besides the wattage issue, I can’t get an answer from Amscope about the “400” series. The “490” is such a success why take a chance? I can’t wait to be observing and not dithering about what scope to get ! I’m hoping to find a stentor or hydra ASAP. I think t...

Re: Decision: Amscope T400A-30W Any thoughts?

I guess I could buy T400A-30W, go right to the 100X-oil and look for vibration. That’s a hard way to get an answer. First: I don’t plan use the 100-oil at all, or rarely. Second: If it did vibrate and I was dissatisfied there is the hassle of returning one scope while waiting for a new one to arriv...

Re: Decision: Amscope T400A-30W Any thoughts?

In all honesty, I don't know either... I feel like the T490 is pretty good, and I don't know what level of control you would need for the halogen bulb. Then again, it's pretty bright, has 'daylight' light, and easily replaceable, the only con is that it heats up. But then, the LED is not as bright (...

It is difficult because there is a wire or two that prevents me from opening the LED access door ver...

Even though I have the halogen version... The T490 is the same albeit different lighting, Here are the answers. Yes 95% mostly. Ok, so I'm thinking of this microscope, so I have a few questions... 1) Where did you get the phase contrast turret kit? Like, I'll search it up, but when I go to the product page all I s...

Re: Amscope T340B-DK vs. Amscope T490B-DK

3W should be sufficient for regular brightfield, but may be insufficient when using filters that block a lot of light or when using light intense methods such as darkfield.
