Re: What magnifications do pathologists typically work with?

A typical pathology microscope will be equipped with 2X, 4x, 10x,40X, and 100X objectives. Some also use 1X, 20X, 50X, and 60X. All the objectives are of higher quality. When you are considering the caliber of scopes they are using even the base objectives are very good, but many are using apo and f...

If a third vote for "inner tub" reflection will help, I will add that vote.

Back in the day we had considerable issues with the same issue and solved it with the flocking.

All the best to everyone,

Looks like you are off to a good start. If the scope has been in storage for a while the lubes may be a little dry. I would be concerned about 'wiggle'. A tiny bit of movement is magnified and will become a larger problem. The enlarger base may provide a more substantial footing for the arm you are getting.

Just a note regarding the B&L scope I mentioned. It was not a BalPLan, but a Galen 2 which was a collegiate, veterinarian model. Sadly, the day after I posted its availability a veterinarian grabbed it for semen testing.

Re: Question about a Particular Phase Contrast Microscope

If you must have a microscope and your budget is very limited you will have to settle for something like this. It is not the best scope in its class and the phase is certainly not as good as an old Olympus, Nikon, or Bausch & Lomb. If you were able to find comparison photos you would certainly see t...

PeteM says it best: "Perhaps the best way to look at this is to start with the intended purpose, rather than searching for the best specs attainable at any cost." farnsy asks, "Is it your feeling that zoom microscopes are as good as the ones with a turret, optically?" I'm just a follower of this dis...

There were no moving critters at all... at the 10X and 30X magnifications of the scope. This is a first for me. Of c...

The collecting of microscopes begins innocently, often a gift from a parent or a serendipitous flea market find, and in many cases ends quietly as one's interests move on to other things, BUT In many more cases it evolves through the stages of terminal microscope hoarding. Here are the stages of mic...

It's not a good idea to spray anything, especially WD-40, around or on your microscope. For best results the body should be disassembled and carefully cleaned and lubricated.
