The stereo 7 is somewhat complex, more so than the 4 and 5, and a dedicated set of tools is required to do the necessary alignment and parfocaling . There is a protocol, which I can only vaguely remember, but there is definitely more to it than a casual user may suspect.

Re: What makes a microscope collectible?
In my case the microscopes i collected were those I encountered along the way. I will admit to purchasing a couple that would have never crossed my day-to-day path, but were interesting in one way or another. I have a couple from the colleges I attended (I did not steal them) and the one I used at m...

Re: Collection disposal ?
Several years ago I gave the library two fairly good student microscopes (Swift M3200) with cases and they are still using them.
If they decide to accept my "collection" it will be for display only as some of the scopes are quite old and a little historically significant.

Re: Improving a toy microscope..add a condenser?
I have quite a bunch of student microscopes that are like those being discussed here that are in varying states of restorability that I would be willing to trade to some enthusiastic person in the US for an authenticated bag of sand... remember, sand can be microscopic.

If you are handy you could make one from aluminum or brass or plastic or hardwood. You have all the critical dimensions so it will be easy-peasy. If you are using it for purposes other than the phase you have the freedom of some design creativity.

Re: Spencer Auxillary Substage Condenser
I would like to see a couple of photos of the 1944 Spencer 5LRH. I recently was given a #5 microscope that was in absolutely horrible condition. I completely disassembled it (with exception of the prisms in the binocular body) and over the course of a week, or so, was able to carefully clean and che...

You might try screwing the small screw farther down into the slider. It's possible that it is a stop pin that works properly on the other side.

Possibly, the pot needs to be cleaned. I don't think there is a trim pot.

The best way to bridge the gap in experience is to amass many mini-experiences. The only way the do this is to get the scope and get started. I would be happy to assist you in the acquisition of a quality used microscope without the perils of eBay and with a close eye on your budget. My recommendati...

Thanks for sharing some of your specifics. I think you have a very clear "focus" HAHAHA on what you want. If you remove the two thumbscrews the lens holder will come out (just don't let if fall) and you will be able to remove the bulb.

I should have mentioned that the illuminator box will not handle any higher wattage without the chance of melting.
