Re: solvent information required
This may sound crazy, but if it is really petroleum jelly you might try vegetable oil followed by detergent and water.

American Optical (AP) 110 user manual?
I recently acquired an AO 110 and am hoping that someone can help me find a user manual for it,online or otherwise. I have searched the internet and come up empty. There used to be good info at https://user.xmission.com/~psneeley/Per ... oscope.htm, but it is giving me a 404 error.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Amateur microscopist discoveries?
Occasionally in the field of astronomy there are discoveries by amateur observers that contribute to the field of science. Most of the scientific discoveries that are possible with hobbyist equipment have already been made, but every once in a while a dedicated amateur will discover an unknown comet...

Re: Substitutes for Hay Infusion?
There are many types of hay, but many of the common ones for horses are just dried grass. Fescue, Timothy, Bermuda, and Orchard grass are all very common. You can undoubtedly just use some grass clippings from your yard or neighborhood park.

Re: American Optical 110 Darkfield Patch Sizes

Well, I think they look great, and it is awesome that you are willing to share the fruits of your labor! Being very new to microscopy I don't really have any functional suggestions, but since you ar...

Re: Darkfield questions
Thanks MichaelG. The cross section diagrams in those PDFs really help me understand what is going on in the condenser.

Re: Darkfield questions
Thank you both. The fog is already starting to lift a little bit!
Can a darkfield condenser typically be adjusted to also act as a brightfield condenser, or are they usually dedicated to only doing darkfield work?
Thanks...

Darkfield questions
Hi- I am very new to the field of microscopy and have recently learned about the existence of darkfield techniques. However, I don't understand everything that is involved. On a basic level, darkfield imaging can be achieved with a "normal" microscope using a homemade mask filter with a circular opa...
