Re: What parts needed to add DIC to Optiphot?
You need the correct condenser that holds the prisms and the dic adapter that fits between the stand and the nosepiece. You can use either the dic parts from an optiphot 1 or 2 but they need to match as a set. The early version has the slider placed in the side of the adapter 90 degrees from the ori...

Re: Olympus dic on optiphot
The DIC components arrived before my olympus bhs stand so I attempted to adapt these parts to the nikon. I can report that with some simple 3d prints this is easily adaptable to the nikon optiphot and works just fine with nikon plan apo objectives. The only hang up I came across is the olympus conde...

Re: Cannabis thrichomes
Thank you. This was manually done. I used a 20w led for continuous illumination and a USB foot pedal for the trigger so its pretty speedy without having to wait for a flash to charge. It was little over 500 images in this run but I used 425 for the stack to be exact. It could be done with less but I...

Cannabis thrichomes
My first attempt at photomicrography, stack of 420 images. This is a cannabis leaf removed during flowering showing both glandular and non-glandular trichomes. Taken with: Nikon Optiphot through the eyepiece Nikon 10x non plan objective Sony A6500 camera I was trying to get this done for April 20th ...

Re: Olympus dic on optiphot
I appreciate the advice and I'm hearing you all loud and clear, just get the olympus stand and be done with it. I spent around 3400CAD on this set. Cost wasn't really a concern for purchase, it was availability that pushed me towards the olympus. Nikon parts are scarce when your actively looking for...

Re: Olympus dic on optiphot
I did consider that and still am. I was hoping if there was some reason not to pursue this such as the condenser would cause issue with Kohler illumination or stage height is too low to fit the condenser than I'd hear it here and get an olympus stand on the way. But since i can do the machining Id p...

Re: Olympus dic on optiphot
My dic is being shipped and about a week or two away. Are you thinking about olympus to nikon as well? Nikon to olympus is easier for the condenser. The nikon dovetail is 45mm and the olympus 47mm. It clamps down then you can re-center in the olympus like any condenser. Olympus to nikon does not phy...

Re: Nikon Interference Phase Contrast (IPC)
These don't work with the newer nikon cf objective either these need the nikon short barrel objectives. Thought I would add that in case your missing less than you though just using the wrong objectives.

Re: Nikon Interference Phase Contrast (IPC)
Here's one for sale on ebay that I think you got some pictures from https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Nikon-Interference-Phase-Contrast-System-Microscope-/324753478739?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0 The seller claims he used an splan objective that was a good match for t...

Re: Samples & Specimens In Jars
Ive been tending to a water sample i collected form an open steam i cake across while skiing. I use a glass fish bowl from a dollar store and added a small air bubbler to keep things happy since they came from a fast running river. I changed water with melted snow once in a while when bacteria start...

Olympus dic on optiphot
I bought an olympus bh2 dic setup, has anyone successfully made these work on a nikon optiphot? I don't have a bh2 to compare from. Condenser Nikon condensers to olympus is common and to my understanding optically fairly similar. The dovetail is larger on the olympus and looks removable, i dont have...

Re: Nikon MS inverted, anyone familiar with these?
Thanks for the info you guys supplied me with before I had a look at this. I picked up this microscope yesterday and Im quite pleased with it. It's missing objectives and power supply but led illumination and a camera flash setup was the first thing I'd planned for it anyway. This one doesn't seem t...

WANTED: Nikon Optiphot DIC components
I'm interested in any dic components or whole system for my optiphot 1 or a link to anything available. I've been searching ebay and the globe the last couple months and found some condensers but the Intermediate adapter has remained elusive. I believe I can adapt an optiphot 2 intetemediate adapter...

Re: Nikon MS inverted, anyone familiar with these?
Im glad to see a positive endorsement. The design really did catch my eye. I love my optiphot it has that serious look to it decked out with the trinoc and camera mounted but has that unattractive hospital sterility as well. This one just has an elegance to it at least from the pictures I've seen. I...

Nikon MS inverted, anyone familiar with these?
I came across on old nikon MS inverted microscope somewhat locally that's pretty well identical to this one on ebay. its a bit of a drive so I was hoping someone here might have something good or bad to say on these models before I make the trip. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/402758071028?hash=item5dc6407...

Re: Melting 3D printed patch stops
Thanks for the suggestions on this issue I did find some solutions and became aware of some of the limitations to the alphaphot line during the process. Here are my findings. The condenser was not missing any parts, seems there are different types of illumator lenses for the specific models of alpha...

Re: Melting 3D printed patch stops
I believe I'm missing a piece I do not have the protruding section on the bottom past the mount like this one on eBay that looks like it has a diffuser attached. theres a frosted lens directly above the bulb. I will confirm this when I'm back home tonight. https://www.ebay.com/itm/144304671443?mkevt...

Re: Melting 3D printed patch stops
It's just like a magnifying glass and the sun. I'd held sheet of paper vertically to see the beam path and it's focused but not pinpoint like you'd try to achieve with a magnifying glass. I'd wondered about IR there is no filter that I'm aware of unless it's the clear cover over the light source len...

Melting 3D printed patch stops
This is on a Nikon alphaphot with a 3d printed holder and patch stops for darkfield mounted right below the condenser diaphragm. The petg starts to melt within 3 minutes if the light intensity is much more than about 1/3 to 1/2 the full brightness or more. It does this right below the iris opening w...

Re: Hello from Alberta
Thanks for the welcome. My tracker is the open Astro tracker and it's really not a bad unit at all. I'm shooting with a Sony A6500 and an old tamron 350mm telephoto on a canon adapter but I've used larger without issues. It table mounted so alignment is not as straight forward as most purchased unit...

Hello from Alberta
I'm an all round hobbyist into everything from drones, motorcycles, 3d printing and photography. I fell into astrophotography during the pandemic lockdowns with a 3d printed Astro tracker. Somehow my late night youtubing led me to "journey to the microcosmos" and I was instantly interested. Sometime...
