Re: Amateur microscopy and professional micrometer

I use several microtome brands and models. In my opinion, the microtomes are a similar case than microscopes. If you can find a 2nd hand / used microtome in good conditions from serious brands (such as Reichert, Leitz, Leica, etc) you will obtain great results and final learning curve is shorter due...

Re: Predators: Sphaerophrya parameciorum attacking

Thanks Bruce and ddy5. These suctoria appeared suddenly in one of my cultures. Bruce, you are right. I read a lot about this suctoria and finally found some words explaining this same you said: From 2013 this specie is separated as Sphaerophrya parameciorum. It seems my bibliography is going out of ...

Re: Big ciliate. Frontonia

Thanks Bruce.

Frontonia was another of my suspects.
But because only darkfield movie was taken and no mouth or extrusomes were visible, it was the origin of my doubts.
The video has some part using oblique illumination in order to find mouth or extrusomes with no luck.

Thanks again

10x Eyepiece and 10x eyepiece and 20x objective results a magnification of 10x10x20 = 400x final magnification.
???

10x10x20=2000
I’m sorry, you are right. These very Hot days blurred my head when doing the maths. :?

Re: What is the magnification?

I think you should multiply all magnifications, for example:

10x Eyepiece and 10x eyepiece and 20x objective results a magnification of 10x10x20 = 2000x final magnification.

Re: Brand New Amscope Phase Contrast Kit

Hi Red_green, In post #13, the olympus 40x picture shows too oblique illumination. Look at the upper left part of the picture. Bacteria appear with too much 3d effect. This may be a illumination issue, or light and optics alignment problem which can destroy the phase contrast. For my opinion, this p...
