Dark Field issues..

No matter what I try I cannot get a nice deep dark dark field view, all I get is gray and I have try numerous size black dots on the filter. I am using an old Leitz Wetzlar Laborlux (1950's) equipped with achromatic objectives etc. Any ideas on what the problem is? Thanks.

Pond culture questions ...

I know anything is possible but what are the risks of getting sick from a pond culture? Should precautions be taken, I mean other than "don't drink it?" Thanks, Joe.

Collecting pond samples...

Hello, I live in New England where the ponds are close to icing over now so the water is obviously very cold now. My question is if I collect some "bottom muck" right now will I still be able to get a good culture started in my jar? Thanks, Joe.

Should I avoid vintage Leitz Scopes?

Correct me if I am wrong but Leitz scopes from the 50's - 60's (the old black enamel) use odd ball objectives of 170MM, which I assume means other companies from the same era objectives will not interchange and/or will result in poor imaging? Is this a reason to avoid these scopes? Thanks and Merry ...

Leitz Laborlux III issue...

Hello all, I have my eye on a Leitz Laborlux III for a very good price however there is an issue with the Ocular adjustment: The lever that lets you adjust the distance between the eye pieces is frozen solid in place. AO Cylcoptic

I am thinking of buying a Cycloptic M Series Scope. Mostly what I see online about them is pretty good, I have however seen a fair number of detractors. I even saw a post (on another board) from somebody claiming to have worked on Microscopes for decades that these scopes were "garbage"...he didn't ...

Under equal conditions which will give me better images; an old scope like a B&L from the 30-40's or a $200.00 new scope by Amscope? Thanks..Joe.

Is it really all about the objectives?

It seems to this novice that the quality of the objectives is the biggest factor for image quality, yes? I mean for example, one can put high quality modern objective on an old scope from the 30-60's to improve image, correct? Thanks.
