I doubt that, because of the clear shadows seems more like oblique. Just curious how that was achieved.

Re: Spirostomum in BF and DF
What is lightfield? I'm asking because it is not bright field, since I notice some 3d effect and I wonder what you did to get that result. I also think the music goes well with these kind of video's. It just makes it all a little more playful. I happen to have a stock that is also full of these crea...

Beautiful. Is that the natural coloring of its 'inside'? I see you use darkfield. But nothing like polarisation or any trick to have the colors stand out so well?
Nice find!

Re: Alignment of eyes to eye pieces
If you have eyepieces meant to be used with glasses still on, and you use them without, then I noticed that it can be hard to keep your head in the right position. You have to keep a distance that would normally be taken by the distance between your eye and the glass of your glasses. These type of e...

Re: Tests with polarizing filters
Why not just underneath the slide? That would be practically the same place. Or am I missing something here? The way I achieved the maximum polarization is a) by removing the condenser for lower objectives b) by placing the bottom CPL on top of the condenser.

I see you have pointed this out before.
I assume acridine should be used carefully.
How can it be dangerous when used by hobbyists? Apart from not spilling it and touching the specimen after applying it.

This seller is isolated by Brexit, but I found another option.
Dutch ebay:
https://www.ebay.nl/itm/Microbiological ... 0498988061
This is 4x cheaper than I found in other dedicated lab shops.

No clue what this is
I bought a second hand microscope from this obscure brand Biosystems. This small but relatively heavy plastic thing, consisting of two parts that can be screwed, was in the box as well. I have no idea what it is supposed to be used for. It has tiny holes at even distance on the side. But they are no...

At least you do not enjoy your food on your own. I am curious to know how did you get to this result? What is the coloring you used, and what fluorescence light did you use? I just happen to have acquired a fluorescence microscope and I am a bit stuck on how to proceed to use it in a fun way. You se...

Re: Is this fluorescence microscope any good?
I guess that the shiny small knob on the head switches between two wavelengths of excitation light ; or alternatively, shuts off excitation light (pulls/pushes an internal mechanical shutter). Yes, it does shut off the excitation light, or more precise, it removes the green filter and it becomes a ...

There's a free slot in the revolver that I would like to use for a 4x.but that means I will have to find a infinite objective that matches this setup. I understand that those things are very specific to the model. Or can this be derived somehow?

The condenser on my freshly bought Biosystems microscope has a push in filter like below. Seems like your trick is a good suggestion for darkfield. Let's see if the pharmacy has similar caps here in Europe.

Thank you Alexander, Michael, Scarodactyl and Hobbyst46. It is indeed very much a brightfield microscope with an extra lightsource. The link provided by Michael tells it is a Fluorescence Light Source of 'High power blue LED (470-480 nm)'. And it is sold as one unit, but indeed appears a bit home ma...

I bought a fluorescence microscope second hand for really cheap. Well, that is what I think. I paid almost 200 euro. It came with an extra Trinocular head and Motic camera. It is a Bio Systems IMLD. . I bet you never heard of it. There is hardly any background information other than that the Spanish...

Re: Really cool mod to see 3d in compound microscope
Just an update. I found that the effect was getting less clear and I was wondering why. So I closed one eye and it seemed that one eye was giving a clearer result than the other. I found out the reason. The polarisation filter used for phones has a protective layer of plastic. I already peeled that ...

Hi,
Welcome. I hope both you and your daughter will enjoy this hobby. I can totally relate to how you got interested again.
Little did I know of how much more you can do with a microscope than what I learned in the lab when I was studying Biology. This place is a good inspiration.

Great result. I like the shine through effect of the rotifer a lot. To me it seems that for many occasional videos a phone really is not such a bad idea. It's very easy to use. I had a USB camera with my scope that I hardly use, because my phone gives me much better results and is easier to set up.

Hi Jason, It works! 😀 It's great! I really am very happy with the result. It really is 3d. I admit that the combination with darkfield works best. My first slide was one with salted toothpaste. The crystals looked like ice mountains that I flew over. Like being on an expedition. Then I experimented ...

Thanks josmann. Good suggestion. There is indeed a protective layer that I was able to peel off. First I thought to keep it, since I reckoned that it would be unusable if the layer would be covered with glue. But it turns out no glue is used. Makes me wonder how it would stay on your phone. Anyway, ...
