Cannot search for 'amoeba'
It's a pity that a lot of on-topic subjects are unsearchable: https://microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/search.php?keywords=amoeba results in The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: amoeba. You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word ...

Re: Little Nothings
Sometimes it's hard not to imagine some form of consciousness in these little beings. Last week I had a slide with a few paramecia and they had all grouped in one area. Then one eased alongside another and they just sat peacefully still for a some ten seconds, before both hurrying off to their daily...

a growing seed
I had a nice slide with some pondwater. It had plenty of ciliates to look at so I put it in my box-with-wet-tissue-paper. I had noticed the banana shaped/coloured thing but thought nothing of it. The next day this enormous white thing was coming out of it. The day after roots started to grow at the ...

tiny glass house
Found this tiny little one in a jar that had been sitting in the sun too long.
It looks a bit like a very tiny stentor sitting in its own tiny glass jar.

Re: What fits onto the Journey to the Microcosmos microscope?
Thanks again for the suggestion; I swapped the 100x for a 20x and I think it is now my most used objective (probably because depth of field and darkfield are not too good on my 40x).

Easter egg
Since it's easter; I found this one that seems to be coming from this egg (?) https://vimeo.com/699987247 I have no idea what this is but I've seen them before, they are mostly too busy buzzing around to get a clear picture (like these yellow ones https://vimeo.com/681039687). What is going on here?...

phpBB Vimeo plugin needs updating
I was trying to inline a video into a post but couldn't get it working. Looked at the source and noticed that the embed code is severely outdated since it tries to embed using Shockwave Flash. flashEmbed.png I have not a lot of experience with phpBB but there is bound to be an update for that plugin...

Re: What fits onto the Journey to the Microcosmos microscope?
Thanks for the helpful tips.
I'll take your advice and go looking for 15x eyepieces then, and maybe in the mean time swap out the 100x for a 20x.

What fits onto the Journey to the Microcosmos microscope?
I've been looking through the jttmc microscope for a few months now. It also came with 100x oil objective which I've only used twice so I'm thinking of swapping it for a 60x. Since I hardly know anything about the machinery my first question is: what would fit? Could I simply swap it out for a BRESS...

https://vimeo.com/697953467 Previously I only had a darkfield filter for 20x. So did some DIY for 40x (that needs a bit more perfectioning). Then I noticed these tiny strings (much more noticeable than in brightfield). Are these bacteria? Love the middle one especially; the movement is reminiscent o...

Hello from Amsterdam
Hi everyone, I am a 47 year old front-end programmer with a new hobby. Well, not entirely new. I did have a simple compound microscope as a kid. That memory made me get a stereo microscope some fifteen years back. I use it once in a while for insects and stuff . A while back I started watching 'jour...
