Re: Dangerous-Just Thinking Again!
Here is my version of the lighting source. Four leds, red, green, blue and yellow placed 90 degrees apart at an angle such that each led points to the same spot approximately four inches ahead of the holder, using four acrylic rods to better aim the leds. Just a few pictures to show a couple of "mix...

Re: Looking for camera for Swift SW380B
@Topcode - good point about the Toupview. I haven't anything to lose (except the time I spend trying to make it work!) and if the software which comes with my camera is substandard, I'll give it a try. Much thanks! Toupview and "Amscope" software are one and the same. The Amscope cameras come with ...

The subject gets a bit heavy, Gerry … but this is a good introduction: https://www.animations.physics.unsw.edu.au/jw/light/colour-mixing.htm The visual perception of a particular colour does not necessarily mean that colour’s actual wavelength is present. Re: Dichromatic Illumination?
I believe there's a flaw in your reasoning here. Combining light from two or three differently colored LEDs does _not_ generate light of any color. You can get light that appears to your eyes as any color you like, but the actual physical characteristics of that light are limited to the 20 nm or so...

Thanks GerryR for your shae about similar ideas. Interesting. Currently, with this project, I will be using two flexible goosenecks with multi-pin socket in its end. The probe end, of various designs, can then be selected and plugged in to it. RE: Optic fibres. I used to scratch build Sci-Fi models...

. Sorry, Gerry … I may not have been sufficiently explicit I was referring you to my post #8 in that discussion … which recommends looking at the Adafruit NeoPixels [from the linked page.] …. Re: Dichromatic Illumination?
It is interesting that I was thinking about a similar project. My solution was using a 555 astable at ~100hz and triggering four more 555s set up as one-shots with a variable period to regulate the intensity of the four LEDs, R, G, B, Y (poor mans PWM). Because they are all triggered at the same tim...

Dangerous-Just Thinking Again!
I was wondering if a multi-colored light source might be useful in a top-lighting situation. I know there are filters of different colors for BF, but have not seen similar sources for top lighting. I would think a multi-colored source would be useful in highlighting different characteristics of a sp...

Re: Adjusting light intensity, internal, remote or something else?
I posted this sometime ago concerning what I did to modify my 1031 illuminator to LED for my AO 10: https://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=16425 I had to drop the current down to 25% (~ 0.50 A) so the brightness was manageable and still use the ND filter. I was able to i...

Re: A "Small" Project
On my example, nothing was aligned when I received it but there was enough " adjustment" in the condenser mount, illuminator and head to center everything and to the X alignment mark. When the stage is tracked south to macro mode , the rack and pinion moves a little east, so centering down there is...

Re: A "Small" Project
...... I'm not so sure that the lateral control on the M2 is intended to move the specimen, although it does by default. It seems more of a tool to provide centering of the several removeable stage options and then recentering of another. Hence the alignment mark. When used to move the micro specim...

Re: A "Small" Project
That looks to be a nice upgrade over stage clips. I've seen these devices before, but have always wondered how good they are; what's your opinion? Depending on model, I might have a spare AO stage if you still need one. Well, the unit is solid brass, except for the original "arms" that held the sli...

A "Small" Project
A Small Project: I purchased a mechanical stage, but I should have looked at the scale more closely. I needed one for a full size AO microscope, but ended up with this somewhat miniature slide; my mistake. Then I remembered that my Swift M2 only had spring clips on the stage to hold slides, soooo I ...

Re: Moving Sulfur Bacteria
So, basically it is the location of the field diaphragm in reference to the collector lens that determines true Kohler from the "modified" Kohler system. Also, I assume that it is at the higher magnifications where the differences really show up.

.... On the series 10, which does not have Köhler but a modified form of it, they have installed a lens system in the throat of the condenser which changes the front focal point of the condenser altering the illumination system to Köhler. The series 20 uses the exact same phase system but since the...

Phase Telescope from Eyepieces
I believe I read that two eyepieces can be used to get an image of the phase rings for alignment and verification, so I gave it a try. (I believe Phil-Apochronaut was the one that stated this.) I took a piece of 1" plastic pipe and came up with the following that works pretty well. At least it is be...

Re: Moving Sulfur Bacteria
There are two settings that phase requires in order to obtain the most even background illumination. The first is Köhler illumination., which I would assume any phase microscope must be fitted with. The second is a dry condenser. Condensers used for phase are optimized to focus precisely and flat o...

Re: handy cross table solution for stereo microscope
So is the lid actually sitting on the lower filter(?), and you are able to rotate and move the specimen by moving the lid over the lower filter(?).

Re: handy cross table solution for stereo microscope
Interesting idea! Am I looking at this wrong; if you flip the lid over so the edges are sitting on the base, and presumably clearing the lower filter, wouldn't that allow you to move the specimen around by moving the lid? Just a thought.
