Re: Shortening or lengthing the tube
So what would putting an adapter tube shorter that 45mm do? What about constructing an adapter with 5 mm increments marked thats two tubes that can slide one inside other thats at least 60 mm long to see what quality of image I get, from 40,45 and 50 mm? Is there any way to improve the deptth of fie...

Shortening or lengthing the tube
Would an adapter (RMS to M26 thread) that adds 5mm to the front the revolving nosepiece be considered as adding to the tube length? From what Ive seen tube length is measured from bottom of revloving nosepiece. On a similar point, what affect does lengthening or shortening the tube have?

Re: Leitz Phaco 1 - Phase Contrast L 20X/0.32 LWD Objective Lens
Does the RMS to M26 adapter at 5mm to the tube length? Should I have made an adapter of 45mm and not 50 mm? I've just made a temp one for now out of some plastic tubing.

Re: Leitz Phaco 1 - Phase Contrast L 20X/0.32 LWD Objective Lens
Are there any quality/fit issues for adapter ring quality on RMS male to M26 female? I'm weary of dealing with Aliexpress and hit and miss quality control in the past. Does anyone know who makes a quality piece? https://www.ebay.com/itm/384620411818?hash=item598d29bbaa:g:wIEAAOSwuZFhwWw1&amdata=enc%...

Re: Leitz Phaco 1 - Phase Contrast L 20X/0.32 LWD Objective Lens
If the total length of 210mm is the goal would an adapter of 50mm (say a metal or plastic tube) added to the 10x eyepiece and an RMS to M26 adapter work for the lens? Would the 50mm tube add distortion? Or would just getting a 20x eyepiece be a better idea and work with the 10x?

Re: Leitz Phaco 1 - Phase Contrast L 20X/0.32 LWD Objective Lens
Thanks for the guidance. I replyed to a seller saying I'm interested in a Nikon BD Plan 20 0.4 210/0 ELWD an he says won't work with my microscope. Its a Russian/Chinese XSC-04. I bought it with the 20x missing. It came with a 10x (7mm WD) and 40x (.5mm WD) As far as I know the Nikon is RMS threaded...

Leitz Phaco 1 - Phase Contrast L 20X/0.32 LWD Objective Lens
I've narrowed down my choice for a lens to examine minerals with. I'm thinking about getting one of these used. Leitz is another name for Leica so I'm confident about the quality of optics and build with this. Does anyone have experience or reconmendations with this as a LWD lens to work with? https...

Made in China lenses and quality
I'm looking to examine some minerals and am looking at one of these 20x L Plan lenses, with LWD so I don't damage the sample or lens. Does anyone have good experience with these, or the fall apart from being built down to a cost?

Re: Whats the best way to look at an awkward object using the 40x lens without damaging it
Ideally you'd want to use objectives designed for use without a coverslip. Working distances are typically small with a 40x objective, often around 0.5mm. You could try placing it on a slide and getting it centered, but you'll probably need to illuminate it from the side, which at that working dist...

Re: Whats the best way to look at an awkward object using the 40x lens without damaging it
I finally figured out what I've got; its this. Seems to be a Russian/Chinese clone. Does anyone know where I can get the manual for it? I found a similar Soviet era clone that uses RMS thread. Would the xsc-04 use RMS thread for its objectives too? https://www.easyliveauction.com/catalogue/lot/0400a...

Whats the best way to look at an awkward object using the 40x lens without damaging it
I've got what seems to be a Chinese clone of an Olympus microscope. I'm trying to inspect a record player needle with it. When I set it for the 40x lens, its touching the needle which is what I don't want.I know it needs to be placed very close to the subject to view the detail. I tried with a piece...

Re: Bausch and Lomb 7801 vd microscope with a Budd base
Is there a calculator that converts mm to 4 or 5x ojective magnification? Also are Gaertner EFL lenses interchagable on the same microscope, if I wanted something with greater optical zoom? Would any other brands of lensese use the same mount?

Re: Bausch and Lomb 7801 vd microscope with a Budd base
Is there significance to the angle of the base below the objective lens? It goes at an opposite angle to that of most stages I've seen.

Re: Bausch and Lomb 7801 vd microscope with a Budd base
If I'm missing a stage, what s the best way to light an object like a wasp sting or a cactus thorn? My magnification range is between 50x-200x. Do I light from the top, bottom or side? Are the new modern LED ring lights something to look into for evenly lighting the subject? Is there a source for af...

Bausch and Lomb 7801 vd microscope with a Budd base
I have a Bausch and Lomb 7801 vd microscope with a Budd base and additional Nikon assemblies. I want to use it but it seems to be missing parts and didn't come with a manual/instructions. Here are photos of what I have. Does anyone know how to setup the Nikon F adapter ? How am I supposed to light t...
