Re: First try adapting astro gear for microscopy!

Yes thanks although I'm not too sure cooling the ccd would help with microscopy as these exposures were Red 0.01secs, Green 0.01 secs , Blue 0.008 secs and I cant see noise being a problem with these exposure times. Onwards and upwards as they say 😊

First try adapting astro gear for microscopy!

Hi guys I stopped doing astronomy a while ago and still have all my gear and thought about combining it with my microscopy. I have a little toupcam which I like using but it never quite gives the resolution I wanted, neither did my Nikon D5500 dslr so the thought of using my 16bit cooled Atik ccd ca...

Re: Cooled ccd for microscopy?

Also does your camera do high speed video? Bob No it doesn't Bob they are mainly for imaging very faint objects doing long exposures (up to an hour) the ability to cool is to make the ccd more sensitive and reduce electronic noise from the chip.I can maybe see the use with microscopy such as fluore...

Re: Amateur Microscopy vs Astronomy

Very interesting question and speaking as someone who does (or rather did) both astronomy and microscopy. I was quite an active amateur astronomer with my own computerised observatory, apo scopes , ccd’s, spectroscopes the lot but become very disillusioned with the constant battle with the weather we...

Cooled ccd for microscopy?

Hi guys I used to be quite an active amateur astronomer some time back and have an Atik 314l mono ccd capable of cooling down to -20 degs and I wondered if there is anything to be gained by using it for microscopy?. I did think of trying to devise some device to go on top of my trinocular head to us...

Which app MycoCam,Altami or Toupview? I have heard Altami 3.5 had a few issues but I never tried it and after posting on here I was given a free licence to beta test v4 and so far so good!.

Re: MycoCam5 question please.

Hi John Yes Ive tried Toupview and it is a very good app but for some strange reason I always had a flicker in the liveview which made focusing not an easy task. I tried many different settings and ended up fluctuating between Toupview and S-eye another app for the imaging. Whether it was a driver t...

Hi guys I seem to be going round in circles trying to simply take a jpg using this software but no luck so far. I USE MINE WITHOUT OIL I HAVE A 160X
I read that if you use an oil immersion objective either with the wrong oil or no oil at all you get spherical aberration??

Thanks for info, I think maybe it might need a clean- just lens cloth and cleaner ok?. I've never used an oil objective before so will have to checkout the do's and dont's of that

Hi guys
My trusty Leitz Laborlux S came with 5 Leitz Wetzlar objectives giving x4,x10,x25,x40 and the last one x100 which is labelled Wetlzar 160/0.17, NPL Fluotar 100/1.32 OEL. Would I be correct in thinking it's for use with oil as it doesn't show a great deal of detail without?.
Thanks

No just mixed on a slide and air dried. It's becoming quite absorbing ( for me at least :) ) trying out different chemicals and seeing how the crystals grow.

Re: Altami studio price anyone?

Yes I have Toupview and that also works fine but I find the image just that bit clearer and steadier in Altami !. Not sure if it's a driver thing or not. Not a great deal of difference between the two but if it was a silly price for Altami I'd happily carry on with Toupview.

Hi guys
I've started using S-EYE software for my little Toupcam and works great, no problems at all. I had a problem with Toupview where the image kept flickering.
S-EYE worth a try can't remember which version I have (I'm away from home at the moment) but just Google it!.

For Rheinberg filters I read that you have both field lens iris and condenser iris fully open or you can cut off the part that colours the specimen. Is the centre disc (the part that colours the background) too big or off centre?
