Re: Various bacteria 1000x
Update today. I experimented with the filters I had and found that a different shaped filter was able to help me resolve a bit finer details. I actually was able to (easily!) see the flagella of many bacteria! They showed up even better in the images. Here are some images I took today, some have fla...

Re: Various bacteria 1000x
Thanks everyone for the comments and the ideas! I used the stock condenser that came with my Amscope T340B, and the top of the condenser was immersed with oil as well. I experimented using a green filter but didn’t find much difference, but it’s not one with a specific cut off point so I’d probably ...

Re: Various bacteria 1000x
Hmmm, I do have a green filter that came with a set of colorful filters. I’ll have to give it a shot. I have a feeling I’m nearing the limit of what is actually resolvable though haha!

Various bacteria 1000x
These were found in pond water samples that have been sitting in jars for months. I have added a blueberry that has began to decompose to one of the jars and others have decomposing leaves. Then blueberry sample was teeming with bacteria. Many types of bacteria were seen with all different shapes, s...

I had to rotate the video on my phone to enlarge it because I thought I was seeing it wrong when it got to the long neck portion. That was crazy to see, it’s amazing how far it can reach, I haven’t seen any come that far in neck length yet. Super cool footage

Honestly I don’t know. I am just now learning about them and thought that we the name of them due to the shape, I may have it mixed upmacnmotion wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 8:26 amAre those spirochetes or spirilla? I've imaged spirochetes before and they are quite long. Not sure of your photos though due to DOF.

Re: Bacteria 1000x
Nice shots! DIC? or obliquely illuminated? I like that you posted the photos here rather than forced a link off site. Haha no problem, I think a few of them I had to upload lower quality, I would link to Flickr if it wouldn’t let me post full quality or “good” quality but it all worked out :). This...

Here are some bacteria from today. These have what I believe are endospores, which are the bright tic tac shape on their ends.

The first one is indeed pretty good! ...are the images cropped from wider photos? Re: Bacteria 1000x
Found some more bacteria and did some heavy processing to try to eek out more details. I isolated the green channel and did my processing in that layer as it was the sharpest. I used Topaz denoise as well as the basic highlights, contrast, shadows, etc I’m really surprised by what is visible in bact...

Re: Bacteria 1000x
Thank you! I am happy with how they look, I’m still kind of new to microscopy so it’s still crazy to me that that is actual bacteria I can see! One day I hope to have a better set up with phase contrast or DIC but with my setup right now, I think it’s pretty good. Also important to note, this was pr...

Bacteria 1000x
I photographed these bacteria using the 100x oil objective that’s came with my AmScope T340B. It was really difficult photographing the last one as it was swimming, so it was constantly moving in and out of focus. I think the first one is in the processing of dividing as well. It’s hard getting dece...

Re: Tardigrade exploring the slide
Thanks for the comments everyone! I found another tardigrade yesterday, this one seemed to be dead though. It was outstretched and stiff. I was able to get a few images and stacks of it, maybe it can be identified further than just tardigrade. Full body https://flic.kr/p/2o85bBG Back legs https://fl...

Tardigrade exploring the slide
Hello! I have been wanting to record a tardigrade for a while and came across one today. It was moving nonstop though but I got some cool views of it. I found it in a cup of water outside, I had to take out the ice that was in it from how cold it’s been. At the bottom was some dirty water from the d...

Rotifers and diatoms
There is a bit of film forming on top of one of my cups of pond water so I stuck the cover slip to it and examined it. I found tons of these armored looking rotifers, some huddled together, along with vorticella and some smaller non moving oval things. I also looked at another container of pond wate...

I just went back and collected a jar of water from one of the ponds. I’m not seeing any Volvox in this sample after a quick look, just a crazy amount of water fleas so far. Here is a photo of the pond though

Were you simply 'pond life sample collecting'...if so...why only a: 'cup of collected waters'? Thanks for this microscopy sharing, ...

Attaching Nikon DSLR to Amscope t340b
Hey everyone! I got my first compound scope today, and I’ve been looking at everything I can think of under it. I’ve seen tons of diatoms and rotifers, and countless things I can’t identify yet. I took some photos by holding my phone to the eye piece but I want to get better photos with my camera. I...
