It is hard starting out in this hobby to identify what you see, at least with precision. So, the little guy below was in a little rain puddle on top of a rock. I spend a lot of time trying to look these things up and I think this is a Ciliate of some kind. Can you tell me more precisely what it is. ...

Yes, it will focus quite well if is is raised up. Could you show me an example of the type of oring you are referring to? Thanks.

... than the creatures I see moving around. I try Google Images on this kind of stuff but to little avail -- I end up thinking it is a diatom, algae or cyanobacteria. As you can tell, I am new at this.

I looked up some videos and compared with my other photos. You are correct that is what it is. Thanks. I am really impressed you could id it from such a photo. You are good.
The subspecies is probably Catenula confusa

I found several of these were in a pond sample. Long, slithery. They also clumped together.
