Re: Is this the flagellate Petalomonas?
We see an ovoid heterotrophic euglenoid with a strongly ribbed pellicle, but I can't make out an ingestion apparatus or any flagella. I don't see how we can rule out a strongly ribbed biflagellate, like certain species of Ploetia and Entosiphon . Is there a particular species of Petalomonas you had...

Re: Is this the flagellate Petalomonas?
At various frames in the videos, when I look frame by frame, a flagellum comes into focus. I'll grab a screenshot when home. I was hoping to ID to at least the genus level for the BioBlitz project but I had thought I probably don't have enough detail. I had thought the ribs, along with the barrel sh...

Hydra-like Cnidarian from marine sample -- what is it?
While wandering through my marine sample (Gulf of Thailand), I came across what I first thought was Hydra, however Hydra don't live in marine environments. I'm trying to figure out what this is. Here are a few looks in a video, and also a quick image stack of the tentacles. mUBx3-CAxv4 hydra stack 3...

Re: Marine Foraminifera on the move
Wonderful! Those reticulopodia in the early frames look really long. Do they extend them, latch onto something and then pull themselves along? Harry The reticulopidia can be used for both feeding and locomotion. You're exactly right in your description. Between the 2 scenes in my video the Foramini...

Marine Foraminifera on the move
I've been hoping to see this for a long time. This marine Foraminifera (from the Gulf of Thailand) pulls itself through its environment using its reticulopodia (filamentous cytoplasm).

Re: Looking for a NICE dust cover
I found a place online that makes outdoor covers for grills and furniture, and also had a heavy clear material for taxi seat covers. Looks very nice. Could you give a link to the company? Re: Looking for a NICE dust cover
I'm in Bangkok. I found a place online that makes outdoor covers for grills and furniture, and also had a heavy clear material for taxi seat covers. I had them make me a cover for my scope, and one for my flat top. Total cost about US$12. I had it made with some extra room so that it would slip on a...

Marine Gastropod (snail) Veliger
In addition to the marine bivalve veligers I posted a video of yesterday, I also captured some footage of a Gastropod -- in this case a snail. The lobed velum, used by the larva to swim and collect food, is very clear here.
