Hi all,
It is in fact a Stentor in the mobile form. The next day I saw a similar one without the budding. But I am still not sure if it is budding for reproduction. I read that Stentor reproduces by fission.

A budding Ciliate?
Hi everyone,
Could you please help me ID this one? It is budding, I think. I have the video of the whole process, but not knowing which species it is.
Thanks a lot!

Re: Chinese eyepieces equivalent to Leitz Periplan
Hi everyone, I also thought the chance that Chinese markers produce replica of Leitz eyepieces is low, but you never know. In a similar vein, I have another question: - I often read that some photo eyepieces of low magnifications (2x or less) are extremely rare and sought after (so, very expensive)....

Re: Chinese eyepieces equivalent to Leitz Periplan
I doubt it. Nikon did most of their corrections in the objective, starting with the Labophot/Optiphot microscopes. So, "neutral" generic eyepieces work well. Leitz eyepieces are meant to have corrections - and I doubt some Chinese maker has decided to reverse-engineer them. That said, our eyes ofte...

Chinese eyepieces equivalent to Leitz Periplan
Hi everyone,
I know that there are Chinese eyepieces that function similarly to Nikon eyepieces. Is there something similar for Leitz Periplan eyepieces?
Thank you!

Re: Olympus FL PL phase contrast system
In the 1970's transmitted fluorescence was still used quite a bit, less so today. Objectives and condensers needed to be able to transmit the U.V. wavelengths, so special glass, cements and construction techniques were employed in fluorescence optics manufacturing. Such optics are also useful for v...

Re: Olympus FL PL phase contrast system
These are short barrel objectives from the Vanox and BH era. The 1970's. The parfocal distance is about 36mm or the like. So, to add a 10X objective, it should be of the same type. They are good quality, although (subjective opinion) the contrast is less than those of the BH2 SPlans and Dplans. Che...

Leica microscope head compatibility
Hi everyone,
I have a Leica DM750 with a binocular head (infinity). I would like to ask how compatible the heads are, within the infinity system? How do I know if a trinocular head is compatible with the DM750?
This one for example:

Thank you very much!

Re: The best way to attach a camera to an eyepiece
Hi everyone, Thank you for your replies! As PeteM said, the only situation when I would need a whole field of view is when I chase some protists. For this microscope, I am using the Sony A5000 + an 2x microscope adapter from Bresser (easy to insert into an eyepiece). I would love to upgrade to a Son...

The best way to attach a camera to an eyepiece
Hi everyone, From your experience, what is the best way to attach a camera to one of the two eyepieces (no trinocular head) while still be able to navigate easily the sample? I have a Leica DM750 (phase contrast), and a Leica trinocular head on ebay is much more expensive that what I paid for the mi...

Condenser Zeiss achr apl 1.4
Hello, Anyone interested in this conderser? It has 7 positions in total, 2 of them are filled with phase contrast rings, 1 with iris diaphragm for bright field, 1 for dark field, so 3 are free for you to add other phase contrast rings. This condenser is Achromatic and Aplanatic, meaning it produces ...

Re: What should I do with this microscope Axiovert 405M
The EpiPlan objectives won't be well suited to using with slides and an upright microscope. Instead, they lexpect reflected light and are "no cover" types - designed for use without cover slips. If so, above 20x or so, they'll give poor results with regular microscope slides. It looks like a very c...

Re: What should I do with this microscope Axiovert 405M
Just a feeling. Zeiss AXIO optics are infinity corrected so will only fit in a relatively modern Zeiss microscope, not the 160mm Standard models. They are also quite expensive on the used market. The thread of your objectives is very likely not RMS but M25/M26/M27, I do not know. So they will (poss...

What should I do with this microscope Axiovert 405M
Hi everyone, I just bought a Zeiss Axiovert 405M out of curiousity. It is an inverted reflected metallurgical microscope, and is motorized (which the M stands for; you change the objectives using buttons). It comes with a set of 5x, 10x, 20x, 50x, and 100x EpiPlan NeoFluoar HD DIC in very good condi...

I see them every day now, study them. I have no profession anymore. I lose the world, but I keep them in mind, the very simple and the very pure that the program has put here with me. I chuckle at what they cannot do. Their lives (if we can call it so) are very short, consisting of a few bursts of ...

What is wrong with this paramecium
Hi everyone, I suppose this one is a paramecium (elogated microbe), which I have a lot in my still water bottle. But this one seems to be defective, probably because they have been in the same bottle for almost 2 months now, so defects happen. And the donut-shaped on the left is a kind of Arcella? T...

It is not a nassulid, but something in the family Chilodonellidae ( Trithigmostoma, Chilodonella, Pseudochilodonopsis , etc.). I don't think these are glued shut. Maybe whoever opened it last overtorqued it. I'm curious, any particular reason you'reusing the 4x? Best way to loosen eyepiece glue
Hi everyone,
I have an eyepiece that need to be cleaned, but I can't loosen the screw; the glue seems to be too strong (yet, there are big dust particles inside).
Does anyone know what is the best option here?
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I would like to take photos with a Nikon relay lens CF PL 4x. I can find the information about the image plane for the 1x relay lens, but couldn't find it for this 4x lens.
Does anyone happen to know it? Or how can i identify it?
Thank you!
