Re: Olympus Photomicro Adapter L Cheaper Substitute
Not sure what your camera sensor size is but I used a U-PMTVC (has a screw for adjustability to achieve parfocality) and a C mount to 4/3 micro adapter. In total, it cost me about $50 for the PMTVC and $5 for the adapter. You’ll need an NFK 2.5x or 3.3x which are cheap. Ideal is 1.67x but that’s lik...

I’ve read somewhere that winter is one of the most diverse times of the year species wise. Give it a go and try to collect an open water sample as well as a muck/algae sample

Re: Best size objective for Pond life?
I use a 10x and 20x most often for pond life. 10x gives me the best detail and context around a specimen. For videoing the creatures, I lean towards 20x depending on their size. Some rotifer and paramecium are large enough with a 10x. Best of luck!

Re: Where can i find live Chloroplasts
What kind of set up are you using? If transmitted light, a pond with some algae would work wonders for you if you harvest some algae and dilute in water. If you wanted to make an algae culture, harvest a bit from a local pond and add it to a water bottle of water + a little bit of miracle grow ferti...

Re: Olympus NIC/Phase Contrast condenser repair question
One good thing is that the top lens of a condenser is usually a single piece of glass or at best contains a thin plane sheet sandwiched on top of the lens, not really a doublet. There is no aplanatism or achromatism built into the top lens just the N.A. of the condenser. Lens suppliers sometimes ha...

Re: Olympus NIC/Phase Contrast condenser repair question
That's quite a break. Is the DIC prism under that OK? In any case, the lens looks much like an older Olympus NIC condenser from the Vanox-BH era rather than the most recent BH2 versions. If so, the screw-on lens from an old 1.4na Olympus oblique condenser might fit. If you can provide the exact mm ...

Olympus NIC/Phase Contrast condenser repair question
Hey folks! I recently acquired an NIC/Phase contrast condenser and am extremely happy. The only downside is that the condenser glass is broken :( Is there any hope of saving this and making it functional again? Maybe sending it to Olympus and they have someone who can repair it? Thanks so much and I...

Re: Anyone with a BH2 able to tell me what they paid for their S plan APO's? + Questions
If you check eBay's "sold" listings over time, you'll see that it should be possible to spend a bit less. You also probably don't need both 60x and 100x Plan Apo oil immersion objectives, since they have similar resolutions (numerical apertures). Once you hook up a camera, the images from either ma...

Anyone with a BH2 able to tell me what they paid for their S plan APO's? + Questions
I'm trying to figure out on Ebay and other websites what to expect to pay for various S plan APO's and have seen a range of pricings. My general consensus is that I should expect: 4x : $120 10x : $180 20x : $250-300 40x : $300 60x : $500 100x : $500 Is this close? What did you all pay for yours? App...

Selling an Olympus Vanox AH w/ Epifluorescence and polarized light capabilities
I've got this scope and an Olympus BH2 and decided since the BH2 has polarized light already and that I need to upgrade to DIC and S plan APO's, I should go ahead and sell the vanox. Asking $3500 or best offer and however much shipping comes out to be :) (It'll be taken apart and packaged as a micro...

Does the Olympus BH2 phase contrast condenser provide darkfield?
My question is essentially the title. I've got the amscope darkfield dry condenser I use with my olympus BH2 but I am not a huge fan of it as it is not as dark as I'd like it to be. Anyone know if the phase contrast condenser for the bh2 has a darkfield stop or how I could improve the darkness my cu...

Thanks so much!!
