Olympus BX60 3D model

Hello forum, I am looking for a 3D model of the Olympus BX60. I want to woodwork a case for transporting it, as well as design a number of 3D printed attachments for things like stage motorisation. To do this I require accurate 3D models of the stand, and preferably the BX stage (U-SVRB) model as we...

Wow Don! This makes me curious about seeing the progress the longer the grass stays in the mudpuddle. Keep up!

Re: Is this a diatom?

Hi apochronaut, sorry for the late reply. I tried to find the original uncropped file to calculate the size, but I'm afraid I lost it. I'm guessing form memory and feeling that this was about 30-80 microns. Next time I see this I'll make sure to calculate properly the size, though I haven't calibrat...

Is this a diatom?

Hello, I found this round organism containing what appears to be chlorofyl c and the carotenoid fucoxanthin (the brown pigment in diatoms). Is there anybody that can confirm that this is a diatom? Found in a week old sample of a canal, with many more diatoms grown. https://live.staticflickr.com/6553...

A short movie about rotifers in Amsterdam

Hello, I was so mesmerised by the structures and behaviours of rotifers in the Amsterdam canals that I made a short movie about them. I hope it brings across some of the wonder that these creatures deserve. Enjoy! (Please use 1440p or higher, the rotifers are more beautiful that way.) tvflcNJrqYQ Mu...

Re: Two questions regarding water immersion

Okay wow, thanks apochronaut, you seem to know a lot about this. I'm not sure I can understand all of it but I'll keep what I can in mind. Martin Kreutz, from https://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/ seems to get good results with water immersion on his U-TLO. But I'll have to take a closer look at his set...

Re: Two questions regarding water immersion

Hello, I just wanted to give a quick update regarding my eventual decision. I did end up getting a 60x UPlanSApo water immersion objective at a friendly price from a forum member. It was still a lot of money so I was dreading on it day and night for some weeks. I have been using it for over a month ...

Re: A giant rotifer in Amsterdam

This theory certainly seems worthy of an experiment einman. I do wonder whether rotifers are so complex that they might develop such a thing as a sexual orientation. I too wonder about all the little dynamics and feelings that take place around sex on such a small scale. I wonder so many things, but...

Re: A giant rotifer in Amsterdam

Ah thanks actinophrys. Interesting that they display such sexual dimorphism. I'll try and see if I can recognise the male next. Anomalous Mating. The males of A. brightwelli have been observed to mate with other males, newborn females, and with other females two and three times their own size taken ...

A giant rotifer in Amsterdam

Another sample from the canals of Amsterdam. I have never seen such a big rotifer, I'm guessing nearly a millimeter. In Dutch we call this raderdiertje, which means little radar animal. If anyone knows what species I'm curious. It's tremendously beautiful. 20x DIC https://live.staticflickr.com/65535...

Close ups of three different flowers

These might not be the most impressive focus-stacks out there, but at least I gained some insights into the intricacies of plant reproduction. These are 10-20x objectives with desk lamp lighting. First are some very small mimosa flowers. Many tiny flowers form a bigger ball, I'm sure this has some c...

Rotifers from the canals of Amsterdam

I recently dove into the canals next to my house with a little plankton net. I found Synura algae and many different kinds of rotifers. I have no idea which species these might be but they display some interesting differences. Some were carrying eggs, some were motile, some sessile, all seemed to be...

Thanks synnus. I was trying so hard for that last link you had sent. Well the rest of that day I was so disappointed an...

Can I remove an excitation filter to increase auto fluorescence?

Hey, so I was wondering if I can remove the excitation filter from a fluorescent filter cube, while retaining the dichroic mirror and emission filter to attain more autofluorescence. Let's say I keep a dichroic mirror like a DM505, and also an emission filter like a long pass 550 or something, this ...

Let me know what you thought Apochronaut take a look at this: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0019103506004143 So supposedly, it is possible that during a meteorite impact a piece of rock covered with lichen was flung into space. Hi Don, Nice photo’s! Plants contain the most beautiful secrets if we just care to take a look. I noticed you posted a series of pictures of a stomata, each containing a different point of focus. Have you looked into image stacking at all? You can combine a series of photographs into one where the w...
