Re: Wanted: Zeiss KPL 2.5x Photo Eyepiece

Hi, you might have a look at Rolf's new camera adaptation method: https://microscopyofnature.com/microphotography-hybrid-eyepieces He uses combinations of standard eyepiece components to form a projective. I have tested his method and it works very well. Bob The modified eyepiece idea as shown by R...

Came across a small strand of Melosira nummuloides yesterday, always a treat when I come across them

Second image included a stitch as well, in order to capture the whole strand.

Here's a diatom strew with some crops using the Nikon 40/0.85 and 3W violet-blue LED. I've been testing out the violet-blue LED though I find it strange that it looks violet-blue to the naked eye but turns into a deep blue when viewed through an ocular. For my peace of mind - What precautions are y...

Fantastic diversity.
From which depth (in the mud, and below the water) was the sand collected ?
I used a jam jar to scoop the wet sand from the surface down to 2 - 3 cm at low water.

You might find this link useful. You can set it for your area

Nice variety! - including a few I have not come across myself.

Thinking of following your example ...

When you mentioned that you 'swirl the water and then decant', is that by hand or with a centrifuge?

Re: How many reticles needed?

Yes, only one is used.

I use one (calibrated with a stage micrometer) to measure length and width with but as I find it distracting I have it placed in an additional (i.e. a third) eyepiece.

Re: Tintinnidium in it's lorica?

It can be a challenge to find and clean dust inside a microscope. Fortunately eyepieces are one of the easiest to isolate - if the dust spots turn as you spin the eyepieces in place you have found the culprit. Setting up Köhler precisely helps to 'hide' some of the inevitable dust. Also make sure yo...

Hi brianjc, welcome. A trinocular microscope is a good choice if you want to record or share your adventures in the microscopic world. I shared a binocular head with my camera for several months, I now celebrate 'trinocular day' (when I finally upgraded the head) religiously ;) I can still remember ...

I think you might get more feedback if you provided some details.

I have the same transformer, it should not get very hot. You might want to open it and have a look. Do note that with the 60w lamp-house you should not exceed 5 A. See markings on image below: See also light-bulb Rerated life extension formula. Note that design life for the 60w bulb is 100h at 12v. ...

Re: What is a Zeiss Standard 20?

As you say, not much documentation on the Zeiss Standard 20. A quick look at what is available on ebay would seem to indicate a pared down 'basic' microscope. A step or two or three down from the 18! As to the 'F' designated objectives - this is what the Standard fuer Medizin und Biologie brochure h...

When I finally get my scope I plan to replace the 100X objective with a 60X objective but it would be nice to have 200X but there is no room for another objective. I’m thinking about getting some 20X eyepieces and that could give me 200X with a 10X objective. Is there a drop in the quality of the i...
