Hayear - 5MP USB C-mount camera (not a fan)

So I just bought a Hayear 5MP USB 3.0 camera. I actually got it for a great price, but I'm not a fan. ... and it has nothing to do with the images. I think the image quality is fine. I hate that it's not working as a camera, but only works with the S-EYE software. Is this a 'noob' mistake? The Hayea...

Re: LED conversion - No turning back now - gutted Nikon TMS

You want a PWM with a refresh rate of 25kHz or better to avoid banding on digital cameras. Idflan - does that mean you would recommend PWM? Or just do 25kHz if I go that route. That’s good info and appreciate it. Also, I planning to under-drive a 10W LED. So I can adjust accordingly. I have 3200K a...

Re: LED conversion - No turning back now - gutted Nikon TMS

I was about to implement a PWM dimming… Then it occurred to me, would it make a difference? With analog dimming I lose efficiency but I avoid flicker which may matter for digital images/video. The other downside with analog dimming is the light output changes in spectrum. What are the experiences he...

LED conversion - No turning back now - gutted Nikon TMS

It made a huge weight difference. Mostly the transformer. No turning back now. It gave me a chance to clean-up the unit. It wasn't in terrible shape, but it was gunked up so might as well. Definitely will do... - Use a laptop 19V external power supply (Considered USB-C, but I had the flush mounts fo...

Re: Zeiss Inverted Microscopes for Sale

Oh… I sold one of the objectives from my $110 scope for $90 last night and I thought I asked too much… it wasn’t even on auction for an hour…

Re: Zeiss Inverted Microscopes for Sale

As a “newbie” watching auction sites, I’ve noticed prices fluctuate a lot. I bought objectives that sold for twice as much and found some sold for twice that in the course of a month. My only guess is that this is a hobby that’s not hugely price sensitive over tens of dollars. When people need it fo...

Re: choosing software

Slight hijack… Is there an open source camera software for microscopes? I saw OpenFlexure might have something… I just bought a Hayear and hope it comes in today. I bought an AMSCOPE MD35 and realized it was a toy and had poor optical properties. SVBONY … better. But same. I do have a DSLR, but wait...

Re: Moving equipment from USA to UK and making it work!

Get a lab DC power supply or a variable DC power supply. I’d be really surprised if you even need 200W at output but if you do, buy appropriately. I have a DC lab supply… they’re handy for projects or temporary power for random gadgets you pickup at thrift stores or garage sales. On Amazon… DROK 24V...

Re: New to hobby… went overboard

Thank you for the welcomes. I’ve learned a lot from this forum over the last month and watching Oliver’s videos. I wish we had a club like the one in the UK here locally (do we?) as they have great resources too. Well dang…. I’ve been looking at electron microscopes and spectrometers… As far as elec...

Re: Collection disposal ?

I also noticed my hobbies are getting weirder as I age. I bought an old wooden crank phone too… With that said, I was thinking about this with my wife a few weeks ago. I collect a bunch of stuff that people who just died owned. When I die, it’s going to some other person collecting old junk at the e...

New to hobby… went overboard

Hi, I am an electrical engineer and physicist by training. An engineer manager in title. A paper pusher in reality. This is to let you know I’m “trainable” (hopefully) but will give you insight into some of my grandiose/delusional projects I probably won’t get to… I started down this rabbit hole a f...
