Re: Better Microscopy, Volume III, Digital Photo-microscopy

No problem. I was out of town last week, but it was waiting for me when I came back. There's a lot of practical knowledge on one place, so it's very useful for an amateur like me.

Re: Better Microscopy, Volume III, Digital Photo-microscopy

To be honest, I do not know how I found this link, but I just ordered this book from Lulu today (in the US). Hope I get it... https://www.lulu.com/shop/d-j-jackson/better-microscopy-vol-iii-digital-photo-microscopy/paperback/product-145wmw49.html?page=1&pageSize=4 I make no promises, etc., but I hop...

Re: American Optical Series 10 LED replacement for 1036A

This is not surprising. Since the rated lumen output of a lamp is measured in an integrating sphere, nearly all the light is captured no matter what direction it is emitted, but in practice not all the light is usable. One often forgotten advantage of LEDs is that the total lumen output is emitted i...

Re: American Optical Series 10 LED replacement for 1036A

Do you think a marking template would be useful? It wouldn't be difficult to model one based off the rest. Yes, at least for me. My guess is that most of the LED heat is transferring to the baseplate, so I think using a 3D printed baseplate will result in substantially higher LED temperature. There...

Re: American Optical Series 10 LED replacement for 1036A

Will you be posting the dimensions of the T-shaped aluminum baseplate?

Thanks,
John

Re: American Optical Series 10 LED replacement for 1036A

Following this with interest as I slowly get my AO 10s repaired and set up. I have looked at LED light sources over the years for a variety of applications, so I can suggest a type that may be of interest. The following COB LED has a very high CRI of 98, and notably does not exhibit the giant spike ...

Re: AO 10 focus repair question

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered the recommended greases. While I have used Superlube in the past on some other things, I thought even at the time that I would actually like a little more friction than it provided. I'll use the dampening grease on the focus bearing surfaces and the binocular hea...

Re: Hi from upstate NY

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I will be on the lookout for the 20x, but my first priority is to get the two scope complete and running. One of the scopes came with a dual filter wheel, so I assume I can put in a polarizer in one of the openings.

Thanks,
John

Re: AO 10 focus repair question

Thanks, I think I will go for it. I will practice on my parts scope, since I need to get the nose guide bearing out of there anyways. It looks like the Nyogel is much more viscous than the Rheolube, if I read the data correctly. I'm guessing the thinner one is for things like the condenser dovetail ...

AO 10 focus repair question

Hi folks, I have a question regarding an AO 10 microscope with a balky focus. The problem is that the nosepiece does not drop with gravity alone and needs a little push. When I took off the binocular head, I could see that one of the two side bearing has quite a lot of rust on it, and this seems to ...

Hi from upstate NY

Hello all, I've had a long, but cursory interest in microscopy. About a year ago, I pulled out a Unitron MPH microscope that my brother-in-law gave to me, and after a clean-up and LED upgrade, I saw my first live rotifer and was hooked. Aside from pond water, I have also been interested in plants an...
