Your pH is most likely too low. Increasing alkalinity will give a more intense colour uptake. Right you are, polymerase, the dignity and adherence to 'scientific method of seeking reality outside ourselves'...is the way to go deeper into experiencing objective reality. My 'caution' is my sense that we are quite approaching a paradigm shift...and troubles arise when we educated westerners ca...

So please, polymerase gently have caution with the concept that; 'data will be a lantern to understanding our reality'. data sets come and go..gently understand we are further refining And this, my friend, is the beauty of science. Data sets come and go, and they are all we have. Any data set that ...

Wow! Quite expensive with the higher magnifications. Is the import tax because you bought it from somewhere like Japan? Any other fees with buying from places like that? I see most if not all ebay APO's are being sold out of japan and the description always mentions customs fees I haven't researche...

Just for elimination: Did you try adjust interpupillary distance in the viewing head? If improperly adjusted, this can cause both headaches and double vision when viewing. In most heads, distance between the eyepieces can be adjusted. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go. Set the eyepieces to maxim...

" not in great detail " and I said under 10 microns . You must have been using a 20X .45 objective a lot . Have a look at any protozoology text. Richerd Kudo's for example. All objectives were used and I doubt if any of them was a 20X .45 achromat because that is what most amateurs will be reaching...

What about the myriads of critters under 10 microns not to mention their structures or even the structures of larger critters? A good question. However, viewing such creatures in a live specimen puts a heavy demand on slide preparation. Again, knowing what you intend to study is crucial for selecti...

Re: Best size objective for Pond life?
Very often, inexperienced microscopists tend to think that it is all about the high power objectives and high magnification. When starting histo, our professor started by stating that “you”ll be surprised how little time is spent on high power objectives.” While this is (mostly) true for histology s...

I use a Bertrand lens. And if necessary, visual correctiion while working on specimens. Of note, make sure to check that the phase annulus in your condenser has clicked correctly into place before recentering. I made that mistake alot when starting phase contrast. When all it takes is a slight push ...

Re: A microscope for Christmas….
Apart from the question of how much money spent, I think the most relevant question is what it is going to be used for. A stereo microscope is probably more instantly rewarding, but is unsuitable for smaller, more transparent objects. What is its intended use? Do you wish to study insects, seeds, su...

People who study dreams find that if a sleeper is aroused suddenly during sleep (especially during the REM portion of ...

Are you sure that unconsciousness is not experienced while unconscious? While it would seem to be the case, you cannot prove it to be the case, see also 'Popper's falsification'. So possibly your cube was modified to UV. The XF06 is a UV set. Easy to check the emission filter. If it is the 450DF65, it should pass blue light. If Olympus G, it should pass orange-red light (590nm and up). And the dichroic mirror: if it is the 400DCLP, it should reflect violet and pass green. I...
