Re: Stomates and cellulose acetate butyrate- any experiences?

*sigh* finally got back to the sampling, figuring I'd sorted this and other problems. Turns out the change in humidity here- back to almost 100%, fluctuating between 90% and 60% in the work room over the course of the day- totally blows the previously successful protocol out of the water. Could also...

Combined with the L-tube and P-type eyepiece you require : PM-ADP P eyepiece L-tube Olympus- canon eos adapter like this one https://www.ebay.nl/itm/122637823689 Camera You do not require a T2 adapter Thank you so much ( sorry for delay, got distracted a few days with the bushfires here ) That's a ...

Just discovered a short term solution that could yield equivalent results. There's a free Android App called Manual Camera Compatibility that lets you check if your current phone can accommodate manual over-ride https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&pli=1 ...

You shouldn't have to recalibrate every time, so long as your camera mounts in more-or-less the same place each time.
That's a huge relief. Queue more endorphins, maestro :D

Sorry, the adapter you bought will only function on a micro with infinity objectives. Aha. Ahahahaha I am a goose. Another object for the archives but at least I know this in advance- thank you. I did not know this previously As stated on the Alan Wood pages + above you require an Olympus FK correc...

Re: Stupid new comer question

I teach microscopy to undergrad students, and your confusion as to how magnification works with digital cameras is completely normal. What? Your answer is awesome! Thank you! Does this mean I don't need to calibrate the ratio between the eyepiece reticle and the stage micrometer every time when I'm...

Re: Quick adaptor advice- Olympus EHT trinocular + Canon 1000D parfocality adaptors?

Thank you heaps! You've covered and confirmed a few things for me I did try a couple of cellphone eyepiece mounts- they were less than optimal, as my phone doesn't have manual focus and a new phone to spec is potentially double the cost of even an expensive adaptor. Autofocus was a nightmare even wi...

Suggested reading https://www.alanwood.net/olympus/microscopes.html Thank you. Perhaps I should have been a little clearer. I've read so many pages over the last few months. Including many of the ones in the front page above. I'm still confused and don't want to purchase the wrong kit, spend a week...

Quick adaptor advice- Olympus EHT trinocular + Canon 1000D parfocality adaptors?

Have done a fair bit of reading on sensor size and trinocular camera adaptors- but if anyone here has direct experience on the best camera adaptor/ accessories to buy I'd love to hear it. As a noob I admit to confusion and occasional misplacing of the decimal point at 0300 Have an Olympus EHT trinoc...

Re: Stomates and cellulose acetate butyrate- any experiences?

Victory!!! Thank you! The trick for me is to use minimal superglue, the thinnest smear of vaseline, to offset the slides as you mentioned- and not to wait an hour. Ten - fifteen minutes is plenty here to prevent the glue from hardening too much. Slides can be carefully separated using a blunt scalpe...

Re: Stomates and cellulose acetate butyrate- any experiences?

Nothing technical, really. I repeatedly use the same top slide and take great care not cleaning it. When it gets lost, I take a new one and wipe it off the skin of my nose... Lol, no catalogue number for that then I'm a goose, I took your grease vs CyanAc to heart, and used a lot of both. I'll try ...

Re: Stomates and cellulose acetate butyrate- any experiences?

I place the leaf on the glue, followed by a second slide (that as well might be a bit greasy). Interested to hear which grease you used to keep the top slide from adhering to the CyAcr slide. I tried both avocado oil and vasoline in smeared and in larger amounts. All my slides stuck together Silico...

Re: Stomates and cellulose acetate butyrate- any experiences?

Thank you- your pics are exquisite! Yes indeed- I had been following the standard youtube and written protools the wretched algorithm has been throwing at me for months, which simply coated the underside of the leaf and peeled the CA, nail polish or PVC-A when dry. No I hadn't thought of this variab...

Re: Stomates and cellulose acetate butyrate- any experiences?

Could you post a link to this replicating tape? Cyanoacrylate was a failure for me because all the brands I tried were too brittle and inflexible to remove from the leaf surface. Using adhesives ( incl PVC, PVCA ) to get stomata pics seems to be a brand thing in Australia, with a lot of products be...

Mix and match- recommended boom stand/ stereoscope combination?

Morning all I've a colleague in CA looking at putting together an aftermarket stereoscope and boom stand for laminar flow hood use There are a few sweet deals in the US, but freight to CA is wickedly expensive and works out at about 2x the price of the units I'm not a fan of the cheaper brand packag...

Maximum eyepiece magnification for Zoom4?

Just bought a shiny Bausch & Lomb Zoom4 stereoscope for laminar flow hood work. It's a sweet little unit. Came with 10x eyepieces

Somewhere I read I can get 15x, 20x + 33x eyepieces for it

What do you reckon the maximum eyepiece magnification I can get to before it becomes 'empty' magnification?

Stomates and cellulose acetate butyrate- any experiences?

Morning all Have a large number of species to image stomates from- and they're all tricky. The nailpolish/ stickytape tek definitely doesn't work, cyanoacrylate is too fragile. Some leaves are hairy on the underside, while others are too thick to visualise without embedding and sectioning on the par...

Re: Amateur microscopy and professional micrometer

Although it's suggested in some of the comments, maybe it's worth mentioning tissue preparation. Choice of fixative and methods for embedding can have a major impact on your sectioning success. There are many good procedures published, of course, but at least in my experience with a range of animal...

Darn. I was hoping we could use it. No good to us as biologists. But thank you!! Would it be any good for gemstone analysis? Super long shot I know, but if it's only for metallurgy it'll probably go back in the shipping container until we have a use for it Is the polariser worth stripping off and pu...
