Re: At the seaside (beginner's question)

Thank you everybody for your detailed answers! You gave me many ideas for my vacation researches... I was thinking about scratching rocks with a toothbrush (as shown in the very interesting video), but I didn't consider seaweed at all. I only observed a piece of Codium fragile some years ago. My dea...

At the seaside (beginner's question)

Sorry for a trivial beginner's question... Next month I'll go to the seaside on vacation. I'd like to take my microscope with me (I've just made a DIY wooden travel box), I hope I'll have some time for microscopy, at least on vacation ... My question is, are there any interesting subjects on a beach...

A question about fixing

May I ask you a question about fixing? :) I'm interested in making semi-permanent slides with botanical specimens (sections, peelings); I'm thinking to use 30% vinegar + 70% alcohol 96°, because it's easy, non toxic and should balance the shrinking effect of alcohol (I don't need professional result...

I tried Nail Polish for dry specimens, and now I'd like to make experiments with plant tissues. I had problems finding PVA glue in Italy (here the word "Vinyl glue" only means the ...

Re: Quick cheap & easy LED conversion for my Halogen 'scope

I recently bought the dimmer and two cold light led lamps, to replace the incandescent bulb on my cheap microscope. I'd like to convert it to low voltage and to have a dimmer, but... The original lamp has a VERY reddish light, and the manufacturer put under the lens an opaque blue filter. When I tes...

Hello everybody!

Hello everybody, my name is Simone, I am 36 and I live in Italy (in particular, in the homeland of Parmesan cheese...) I received my first microscope at the age of 8, no more than a toy; then I bought my (real) microscope some years ago (Optika BP20/400). It's an entry level model, now discontinued,...
