Very interesting organism and funny video. I wonder how they discovered this... Have they tried on every species of bacteria? The discover of magnetotactic bacteria is kind of funny. Bellini discovery the MTB in 1963 in Italy. Was undergraduate at Institute of Microbiology of Paiva but worked at me...

Welcome to the forum, Lyra23. Thanks Zzffnn! I read it from literature, since I work with environmental samples of magnetotactic bacteria. Is it also possible that bacteria also use magnetosomes to find iron cations as nutrient? Yes, but the MTB uses the magnetotaxis to find it, not the magnetosome...

Did any of the websites you looked at say why the bacteria had the magnetosomes? What evolutionary advantage to they confer?
