In addition, Eclipse binocular heads are sometimes available for around $100 with the eyetubes a bit damaged - a cheap source of a tube lens.
Hi PeteM

Does an Eclipse Bino Head Dovetail fit a first series Opitiphot?

Thanks if you know.

Re: Improving a toy microscope..add a condenser?

Just digesting your thoughts. The aperture in the stage is just over 11mm. There is a circular indentation 3mm deep, 36mm dia, on the under surface of the stage centred on the aperture in the stage. Shame not 38 mm but gives a little bit more space if the lens pops over the frame of the diaphragm. I...

Re: Improving a toy microscope..add a condenser?

Hi, Many thanks for your consideration of how to improve the Meopta Traveller microscope with a condenser. There is a clear space between the stage and the mirror of 20mm. That should be enough room to put together the lens and small diameter thin diaphragm on a short tube. I will go with the parts ...

Re: Improving a toy microscope..add a condenser?

Thanks again. I have a Meopta Travelling which I would like to improve. I have seen the post and threads on the Meopta referred to here but it does not deal with the issue of adding a condenser. The Quekett link does show that one can be added but I cannot deduce enough detail which is described as ...

Re: Improving a toy microscope..add a condenser?

Thank you for the custom build suggestion with examples. As I live in the UK the lens suggestion gets heaped up with extra taxes and heavy shipping costs. When I go to look for an alternative lens, say 18 to 20mm dia looking at the listed item with the ruler in the photos, would the choice of focal ...

Re: Improving a toy microscope..add a condenser?

The better models of toy microscopes from the past, those that promised 900 or even 1200X magnification did have a single lens condenser in the stage aperture. Why don't you try the stage of one of those or take the condenser out and cement it into your stage? That is a helpful idea. Assuming that ...

Re: Nikon Interference Phase Contrast (IPC)

Thanks Peter. I’ll look forward to that.

In the meantime Google is having a struggle helping me find out what a Schlieren Stop is and some idea of how to fabricate one assuming that is the way forward.

Sorry to ask, but help !!

Many further thanks to get me started.

Re: Nikon Interference Phase Contrast (IPC)

But the repurposed IPC is likely to produce different results, if the modulator is made of pol film which can be darkened or lightened with the pol wheel, and colour contrast given with the analyser wheel. It's quite exciting really. We shall see. Hi Pete I would be interested in hearing more about...

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?

Yes, polarizer on top of the field lens. In the year since last posting in this thread, I've picked up a PZO head to accompany the PZO DIC condensers i have. Works fine on a BHT after making adapters, though I may eventually move it to a Zeiss WL, where it will look a bit more like an OEM scope. Co...

Well, carried out that test, easier with the lower power of the three as expected, and infinites confirmed. Great result, John I must confess that when you asked about TL , I assumed that [if they turned-out to be infinity objectives] you were hoping to determine what focal length of Tube Lens they...
