Re: WTB: 15X 184 eyepieces & trinoc phototube for AO10
I have a pair of 182 15x eyepiecesin New condition. Can't remember which product line they originated in, but keep in mind the eyepieces for the Series 10 were uncompensated and the usual max FD was 18mm. These would probably work with out any problem. If interested make a reasonable offer.

Re: has anyone used Leica S-APO 10x objective?
The 506289 objective was never a derivative of the Reichert Plan Fluor objective family. They came from two different factories, had different reference focal lengths and did not share optical design . The PL S Apo 10x objective has a 11mm working distance as compared to other Apo 10x. This is why t...

Re: AO Sterostar Prism
I have never tried to take one apart, but I think Apochronaut did a nice job of explaining what should be done. Typically fittings were all imperial sizes and I am not aware of any special tools that are required.

Re: AO Sterostar Prism
One of the biggest criticism of the StereoStar, especially from B&L dealers was there isn't an easy way to get into the body and do any alignment or adjustments to the optics. Of course, the argument of the day was with the StereoStar, you didn't need to do that, it stayed in alignment. LOL. As poin...

Re: AO 820 knife holder question
One other aspect to keep in mind is the type of knife that is employed. Typically the 820 used a C' profile knife for cutting paraffin embedded samples. When harder materials were cut such as bone or plastic embedded materials oft times a D' profile know was used. The C' profile used beveled edges o...

That is not the original plug assembly that was used on the 1860. The original power supply was built into the base and controlled by the knob on the front of the base. Does yours have a large stage for wafer inspection or a smaller stage suitable for looking at metallurgical samples? FYI, I have a ...

thanks to all that replied. I am happy to report that your suggestions helped and the slideways are now free and fresh lube has been added for will controlled movement with ease. I think the key element from the suggestions was applying heat to the slideways.

Re: leica dm 2000 with DIC objective compatiblity
Leica retained the Leitz brand name and considered using it with the HM Lux as recently as 2010-12. However, I think it was only offered in markets outside of Europe and the US. The US felt that the branding would create confusion in the the market where the DM500 and DM750 educational platforms car...

Re: Some help with a dual head AO Microstar One-Ten
When you receive the 100x objecive, be sure to inspect the front element and surrounding mounting area. If there appears to be heave scratches, take care to make sure the oil as not seeped behind thr front element. There were some vintages of 1024 and 1029 objectives that were susceptible to leaking...

The mounting area on the objective labelled Austria shows some severe scratching damage to the metal near the lens interface. If it has not leaked any oil it is quite possible through use that it could leak

Re: Leica redesigns their stereo lineup (and it's their ugliest yet!)
It is interesting that the new greenough platform falls completely away from any recognizable styling of earlier models. If you take a look at the S7E and the A60, there is a distinct swoop along the side that mimics the angularity of the CMO M series viewing tubes. I agree these new bodies are less...

Re: Leitz EF objectives
Flatness or Plan is a relative concept in microscope objectives. Any objective can be made flat if the FN of the eyepiece is reduced enough. As pointed out, the EF supported up to a FN of 18mm. However it quickly fell off beyond that . Keep in mind, that most modern microscopes offer 20 to 22mm FN a...

Re: BoliOptics Vs Old Leica long distance objectives
The last iteration of the UFM4 used the tube from the DM1000 HC variety. They had a 200mm RFL. So as has been pointed out, the indicated Mag on the objective was off slightly. Usually wasn't a critical concern as no critical measurements were taken on the scope and if it measurements were taken, the...

I can condfirm the tubes used for the Comparison scopes were standard varieties from the Series 10 110 and 410 depending on the years produced. so they use the same 182mm reference focal length. All intermediate optics components are compatible, so if a mag changer from any of those series a 1.25x e...
