Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

There's an estimate in this thread that some models of Polyvar originally cost 'tens of thousands of dollars'. Does anyone know more precisely? Perhaps find an original price list. I've read that a fully specced Leitz Aristoplan had a cost of roughly 100 000 USD. I wonder what fully specced (DIC & ...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

Being completely new to the Polyvar MET, what are the best objectives? I assume they made other Fluor's and APO's. My MET came with; Plan Fluor 50x/0.85 Epi Plan 20x/0.40 Epi IK Plan 5x/.0.10 Epi Plan 2x/0.04 -JWW: I assume you have the camera controller and power supply for the lamp? The most comm...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

Thanks very much for that, Wayne. On the chance you might know and have time to reply: - For a given objective (say, Plan Fluotar or Leica "N") how much improvement, if any, was there from the old black letter DMR Delta optics era versus the newer red letter and HC DMR era? One assumes that while t...

Re: Reichert U.S.A. and Leica. Why the undercorrection?

First let me clarify from my perspective the relationship the different factories had in the Leica family of products. Lots of points to reference here, I hope I can keep it straight. The Buffalo infinnity based products. those that carried the AO/Reichert-Jung branding, used uncompensated eyepieces...

Re: How to use the AO10 Teaching Head

If you unscrew the end of the pointer control, it looks like it has a flat headed screw slot on the very end, but that is for rotating the bulb inside the shaft for maximum intensity and homogeneity. You will gain access to the base of the pointer bulb. Take care not to lose the spring that contacts...

Re: WTB: 15X 184 eyepieces & trinoc phototube for AO10

I have a pair of 182 15x eyepiecesin New condition. Can't remember which product line they originated in, but keep in mind the eyepieces for the Series 10 were uncompensated and the usual max FD was 18mm. These would probably work with out any problem. If interested make a reasonable offer.

Re: has anyone used Leica S-APO 10x objective?

The 506289 objective was never a derivative of the Reichert Plan Fluor objective family. They came from two different factories, had different reference focal lengths and did not share optical design . The PL S Apo 10x objective has a 11mm working distance as compared to other Apo 10x. This is why t...

I have never tried to take one apart, but I think Apochronaut did a nice job of explaining what should be done. Typically fittings were all imperial sizes and I am not aware of any special tools that are required.

Re: AO Sterostar Prism

One of the biggest criticism of the StereoStar, especially from B&L dealers was there isn't an easy way to get into the body and do any alignment or adjustments to the optics. Of course, the argument of the day was with the StereoStar, you didn't need to do that, it stayed in alignment. LOL. As poin...

Re: AO 820 knife holder question

One other aspect to keep in mind is the type of knife that is employed. Typically the 820 used a C' profile knife for cutting paraffin embedded samples. When harder materials were cut such as bone or plastic embedded materials oft times a D' profile know was used. The C' profile used beveled edges o...

That is not the original plug assembly that was used on the 1860. The original power supply was built into the base and controlled by the knob on the front of the base. Re: leica dm 2000 with DIC objective compatiblity

Leica retained the Leitz brand name and considered using it with the HM Lux as recently as 2010-12. However, I think it was only offered in markets outside of Europe and the US. The US felt that the branding would create confusion in the the market where the DM500 and DM750 educational platforms car...

When you receive the 100x objecive, be sure to inspect the front element and surrounding mounting area. If there appears to be heave scratches, take care to make sure the oil as not seeped behind thr front element. There were some vintages of 1024 and 1029 objectives that were susceptible to leaking...

It is interesting that the new greenough platform falls completely away from any recognizable styling of earlier models. If you take a look at the S7E and the A60, there is a distinct swoop along the side that mimics the angularity of the CMO M series viewing tubes. I agree these new bodies are less...
