New trouble uploading images...

Nothing's working when trying to upload images within a post. It seems to upload, then I keep getting:

"The image file you tried to attach is invalid."

Anyone else seen or is getting this error?

Where's it going?

What's it thinking?

Does it dream?

Does it hope?

Does it know of us?

...so many questions.

A beer says less than 2 fifty.

I suspect the scale bar wasn't recorded when it was scanned. Aesthetics or something.

Re: Stage Plate, Frosted or Clear?

I can't imagine what problem a frosted plate solves that a simple sheet of vellum or parchment paper couldn't solve for far cheaper.

Also, a clear plate underlain with un-illuminated black paper makes nice darkfield stereoscopy possible. Absolutely go with a clear plate.

Re: Can immersion oil be used to aid in viewing inclusions under an rough crystal surface?

I agree, it's worth a try. However....

20x and above M-type objectives won't like the cover glass. On the other hand, if you're using standard objectives for cover glass, you might be limited by depth of field above 20x.

With patience and a lot of time I have restored a Nikon SMZ-10. I have polished one of the lenses that were scratched, cleaned the mould on the lenses....
Not to hijack this awesome thread, but what product and procedure did you use to polish your lenses?

Thanks, in advance!

Re: Working in an "universal condenser" for Nikon Optiphot

Hola Jose....do you have a sample DIC microscopy image with that condenser side 20x DIC prism AND 20x objective with its DIC prism engaged? I'm considering a condenser modification like yours for my Optiphot, but I'd like to see if its' better than my Sanderson plate. I suspect it is, but it would b...

Re: Working in an "universal condenser" for Nikon Optiphot

Where does this shading come from? Is it simply the obliqueness of the lighting source? Jose, can you post your DIC images in full color? I'd be curious to see if you have any rainbow artifacts. That might answer apo's question. I'm taking Jose's claim for DIC at face value given that he's using a ...

Converting a single LED for autofluorescence is pretty simple, find a cheap aspherical lens and collimate the LED. You can lift .step files from ThorLabs' website and design a housing to mount the thing onto your microscope arm.
Nice.

Thanks!

Re: Darkfield diagnostic test slide

Your "diagnostic test slide" shows promise, I think. However, to be truly diagnostic you'd probably want to know the particle size and use a mountant as close to a RI of 1.5 as possible. Maybe we could, as a community, find "inks" with a particle size in the 300nm range; diagnosing super-resolution ...

Re: Some fluorescence

I have a few questions. Is this autofluorescence or did you use any dyes? If they were dyes, what kind and how did you prepare the solution? And finally, how did you induce the fluorescence effect (UV or blue)? I too, have these questions, plus: Are you using UV-specific objectives, slides , and mo...

Thanks apo.

Yep, there's a tiny bit of abberation that I removed in post.

I may yet fine tune this prototype by finding the focal point of the Abbe condenser lens and setting the immersion ball-bearing lens there. The problem is that it's already so good that I'd hate to screw it up.
