Re: Dichromatic Illumination?
… I think, still, that the OPs project will still offer some interesting results … Most definitely … I’m looking forward to seeing them MichaelG. Gee fellows, I don't know if there will be any interesting results. I am a complete beginner in microscopy and a lot of the stuff you guys talk about go ...

Re: Dichromatic Illumination?
It might help to know which type of microscope illumination is wished. Both brightfield and fluorescence, at least, benefit from a single die LED source, rather than a multi-LED arrangement. Besides, I wonder about the wavelength combination... For visual observation, green or blue or amber light ar...

Re: Olympus NIC/Phase Contrast condenser repair question
I have an old condenser top lens, Olympus achromat aplanat 1.4, in fairly good condition I think. Looks similar to yours and perhaps will fit your condenser. Thread diameter 35mm. Top glass diameter 16.4mm. Glass looks clean, except for two tiny chirps (diameter, say <0.5mm) on the top glass. I beli...

Re: Tools for dissecting really tiny spiders and insects
You might try very fine syringe hypodermic needles. They go by gauge number, #33 is the finest I ever met, but #27 (and maybe grades #28-#30 too) are easy to find (on eBay, etc). The tip of a hypodermic needle is actually a tiny blade. Another useful very thin utensil, though not a blade, is the nee...

There is a manual named:
Nikon OPTIPHOT BODY LABOPHOT REPAIR MANUAL
for the beginner and experienced technician alike (seriously!)
It has been downloadable from the University of Arizona site.
It provides exploded views and instructions for disassembly of the focusing gear.

I can't get any light to come through.... I noticed the back of the cube is labeled "Omega XF06." This describes the following setup: Exciter: XF1005 (365WB50) Dichroic: XF2001 (400DCLP) Emitter: XF3002 (450DF65) as described here: http://www.glenspectra.co.uk/glen/filters/pdfs/XF06.pdf But the Oly...

Re: Cleaning excitation filtres
Perhaps I am utterly stupid but could it be that there are actually two glass filters, in two separate metal holders in series ? One holder contains nice violet-reflecting glass, probably the BP545 filter. It passes green and reflects violet. The other holder contains what looks like a green-reflec...

I am not on track with uploading images, but I think this link will allow you to see pictures of the Olympus BH2 G cube, and its opaque inner surface of the BP545 excitation filtre. It is blocking absolutely all light projected to it. The dichroic mirror and emission filtre seem good. https://photo...

Re: Using Industrial Microscope Camera having panasonic CMOS sensor.
Likely, full control of the camera is only available when it is connected to the HDMI. I wonder about untold limitations in the declared simultaneity of output to HDMI and USB. Also, USB 2 is inadequate for decent videos. Also, the pushbuttons are small and dense and are possibly a source of vibrati...

Re: Cleaning excitation filtres

One pf my filtre cubes has an excitation filtre that has accumulated something on the internal surface, to a degree where it is completely opaque, and no light i...

Re: Darkfield diagnostic test slide
Perhaps a more or less uniform layer of small opaque particles of a defined diameter can serve for that purpose. Polystyrene spheres and other polymer particles are available from lab suppliers as suspensions that can be diluted with water as needed. A dried drop on the coverslip will make the test ...

Re: How to connect a microscope to a monitor
Also note that the listed camera lacks a 0.5X reducing lens, which likely will provide a much wider FOV than without it, and that the FPS is relatively low at high quality video. I would prefer USB 3 rather than USB 2, if choosing an eyepiece camera. The listed camera appears to be bundled with a co...

Re: BH-2 RFCA, filtre cubes, filtres and accessories
2) I understand what you write - but why is it in the analyzer slider? Any particular reason? What's the benefit of this, in lieu of placing it in the cube itself? Are an analyzer and cube installed together, such that the rays pass through both of them in series ? in that case, perhaps the previou...

Re: BH-2 RFCA, filtre cubes, filtres and accessories
Having had success in asking for help on lubricating the cube slider on my RFCA, I dare post a few more questions, as the epifluorescence modality and its various accessories are new to me - so here are my current inquiries: 1) What is the difference between the BH2-ANF and the analyzer dummy? I on...

Re: Meiji ML2000L for $150 reasonable?
What's even more ridiculous is I have a degree in molecular cell biology which required doing all sorts of microscopy (including plenty of fluorescence microscopy on organisms I had to genetically modify), although in my defense I don't use that degree for anything, and it's been many years since I...

Re: Help: has anyone ever used Olympus DCW Darkfield condenser?
Thank you all so much for the reply! I'll take a picture tonight to show how messy it is. The most difficult part is, I can not use centering Telescope to properly center it, it's just dark, not like with other condensers where you can try different stops to see where the boundary is. BTW, when I t...

Re: autoflorescence
Fluorescence microscopy requires a strong illuminating (say, blue) beam and a VERY efficient long pass filter that passes ONLY the (say, green, yellow, red) weak fluorescence. Why would you be using a blue light, instead of a UV light? Not only would UV be easier to block, but wouldn't it also crea...

Re: autoflorescence
Highly unlikely in a "standard" trans-illuminated microscope. Some internet sites have advocated sort of DIY epi-illumination arrangements on such microscopes, like a diagonal excitation LED beam (from above) combined with a long-pass filter on the eyepiece, etc. I am afraid that most of them are ov...

Re: Correct position of darkfield/oblique patch stop in relation to condenser?
That sucks; its manual mentions filters... To be fair, it *does* come with filters, they just intend them to go here: ... The marked position is designed only for filters (e.g.polarizer) that completely pass the entire diameter of the illumination beam. The ideal place for a patch-stop is as close ...
