what is the size of the annuli in the Leitz 402a condenser

Having purchased a early Ortholux I with a serial number in the 360000s marked D.R.P from a charity site, I wonder what the history of the scope is, There is a tag indicating it was serviced in San Antonio in 1989. For illumination the standard optics are gone, someone put a GE 1468 with its bayonet...

Salt crystals, particularly in different modes of light are worth a look.

Re: Highest power LED suitable for microscope?

Saul,

Can you tell me what a Type 2a power supply is?

I looked on the web and haven’t found a description.

I have been fooling around and ran into Ohm’s law with the current limits and voltage drop in small conductors.

has anyone ever repaired a 43X AO objective?

I own a number of AO scopes and have found a number of 43X objectives with damaged front lens, probably from collisions with slides
Has anyone tried to repaired one of these? Has anyone tried cement or nail polish to level on the element? Is it worth doing?

zeiss eyepiece delamination fixed with immersion oil

Zeiss delamination isn't limited to objectives. I got a Zeiss stand from surplus of a University and I noticed the image through both eyepieces were partially obscured by distortions and rotating each eyepiece caused the distortions to be move. Disassembling the eyepieces revealed thick lens element...

Re: A great documentary streaming service

This forum was the deciding factor in my decision.
I teach Genetics and Evolution online.
I wish my students had access to these videos.

Ordering through Amazon was easy.

Hello from Southeast Michigan

Like a number of you I had a childhood that involved the curved glass of both telescopes and microscopes. Add to this ham radio, my first introduction to the invisible. I have a PhD in biology and karyotyped a number of minnows, and discovered the hybrids between Phoxinus eos and Phoxinus neogaeus w...

I have karyotyped a lot of minnows and they are 2n=50.
I would guess what you have here is Umbra limi which is in the pike family. 2n=22, large metacentric chromosome s used in various studies
