Re: Best size objective for Pond life?

Apo, you are right the 100* adds to the experience. But, in my personal experience when using the 100* oil objective on pond sample slides, the coverglass often moves when scanning the slide. And when using the 100* I often want to switch back to a lower enlargement, requiring a 40* or 50* oil, (an...

Re: Protist aquarium- how long should I run air pump

Thank you for sharing your experience, Harry. I forgot to mention that I have no filter running, on purpose. My bubbler / air pump looks a little too powerful for my 3.5 gallon tank, to my untrained eyes, even though it is the smallest air pump (“up to 10 gallons”) I could find. You can get a cheap...

No scales and I will not use them again, I like dynamic zoom.
Very nice imaging!

Re: Anyone use a different photo software ?

You just loose calibration forever. OSB does not have any measurement feature. Are you referring to measuring the size of the organism? Create your own scale bar for each objective you use (using a micrometer slide), add them as overlays in OBS, and you'll never need to be locked into any one softw...

Re: Polarized light chemical crystal images

So beautiful, I love the second one! Me too, it's now my desktop wallpaper :-) I regret that I only shot it in 1080P video for stacking, not at the full resolution of my camera with individual frames. And I've since remelted the slide so I can't take it again. Lesson learned. It would have made a r...

Polarized light chemical crystal images

This past week I've begun playing around dissolving and melting various chemicals/substances, then imaging the resulting crystal formations using polarized light. It's an absolutely fascinating new area of the hobby for me. I began with some substances I had around the house including crushed Tyleno...

Re: Focus stacking from a video

The Lumix GH4 has HDMI out so you can connect it to an external monitor for live view without the need for a computer or software. You can then record internally. I can't comment on connectivity with a computer and software for viewing and recording, but even if you can with this camera, you would w...
