Re: Best microscope objective for Nikon bellows
I have a Canon 50D aps-c fitted to the trinocular port on a Labophot 2.
Using an NDPL2 type.
It's not costly or particularly challenging.
Modded the existing tube which is only a soft alloy.

Re: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBJECTIVE
It's the 23mm type as fitted to Labophot era CF. My best guess is some optimising was done. Light path alignment is dictated by the condenser to iris, field lens doesn't have much adjustment either. Filament is only adjustable for length but has a little wiggle room in the socket. Getting everything...

Is there any chance there is shutter shock or vibration? Looks like some motion blur rather than resolution. Hi Phill, these are heavily compressed due to the filesize limitations of the forum - please check out the full resolution image here for all your pixel-peeping needs: https://i.redd.it/0v21...

Re: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBJECTIVE
Almost all nikon eyepieces are cross-compatible, even stereo to compound on the 30mm ones. You just have to avoid the really old ones or s series student eyepieces. Some Nikon eyepieces have 3 detents that fit into the tube in the head, some don't. The detents are to stop the 100% compatible eyepie...

Re: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBJECTIVE
The Nikon phase 2 condenser should have DF which is excellent for up to 40x .65. Nikon 20x 50 plan is good. Nikon 4x is easy to find. The weakest link for the Labophot 2 is the power supply. LED is not an upgrade. Focus is repairable if it fails, usually from being picked up by the stage or transpor...

Re: TIPS FOR NEW SCOPE
All excellent advice. A pre owned as new microscope should be possible to find at around 25% of its new cost if you wait for the right one. Although phase isn't everything its phase condenser can be a great option. Don't put valuable slides under your microscope until you have discovered how to brea...

Re: direct projection with an Optiphot?
Edited.
Internal surfaces should all be matt black.
No grease spots or joints that could be reflective or allowing light in.
Lenses need to be clean around the edges, residue at the edge can make a bright spot.
Image capture can be a lot more sensitive to subject illumination also.

Re: Connected a 110V microscope to 230V
24 v,. or something not right if you input 220! Why 24v? The lamp is 12v. Putting 240v AC in the 110 setting has resulted in 0v output at the socket? Sadly what I would expect. Is there a fuse on the PCB? A good old school electrical engineer might be able to fault find what gave up first but it co...

Re: Comparison of optomechanical design of immersion objective tips of Zeiss, Olympus, Nikon
I'll leave oil immersion on an inverted. Doesn't that mean the condenser also has to be oiled? The inverteds I was cleaning are optimized for epifluorescence and confocal laser scanning of cell culture dishes, so the objective is the condenser. There is a diascopic condenser but it has very low NA....

The Watson DG zonal oil condenser is at na 0.9. Either with the 50x .9 oil objective or with a funnel stop for 100x oil that is listed as a part. Provided the subject is illuminated and the na of the objective is below the na of the dark field it should work. If the limit is .9 anything over 90x is ...

Good luck. Sure you will see anything well enough with that. I wouldn't be without DF, should be possible to do with DIY but dry DF condenser for Motic is available and likely very good. You will need to enjoy subject preparation, pollen is good to practice with. Maybe get some diatom slides from eB...
