Re: Need help with a stuck part on a Zeiss PM3 tube head
There is a set screw in a small hole just near the spring at 3 o clock. I think it holds the thing in place, so unscrew, soften with ethanol and try to remove. Just careful not to damage the set screw

Re: Need help with a stuck part on a Zeiss PM3 tube head
I think you should be able to remove the whole spring screw assembly by unscrewing the set screw. Just carefully and with a right screwdriver as Zeiss set screws are easy to break. Then soak in gasoline, ethanol or whatever, disassemble, regrease and assemble... You did unscrew the cap completely? I...

Re: Full Frame Camera Prices
We have a lot better image since having a FF camera (12MP), 35mm film was what the manufacturer had in mind when building the microscope.
FF isn't about more pixels but about sensor size.

Bittium reticulatum
Here is a video of sea snails Bittium reticulatum, size iz approx 2mm. First and the last part of the video was recorded on our new trinocular SZ40 with NFK 2.5, rest on BH-2. I tested 4K and it does look better than 1080p despite having less FPS  I'll record everything like this in the future...

Re: New Carl Zeiss Standard RA38.
Do you know of some disassembly instructions to try to get to the bulb ? What would you recommend to do for the illumination ? I think you should be able to remove it by turning or something, never had the original bulb socket :| There is a screw beneath (in a base) you can remove the whole tube by...

Re: New Carl Zeiss Standard RA38.
I suggest you find a way to light up that bulb, I think it is 6V and 15W, check somewhere. Lab power supply might be a good option, as it can be used with this bulb and whatever you want use later, probably available locally this Monday if you're in a hurry. :D Maybe find a small flashlight and put...

Re: New Carl Zeiss Standard RA38.

Re: New Carl Zeiss Standard RA38.
Hi, looks great, congratulations. It seems like a good deal. Maybe needs some cleaning, but that's a fun part too, at least for me :) Your condenser might even have darkfield already, look for D when turning the turret. It looks like it may be 1.4 apl. which is great, these sell for more than 100€ b...

Probably, I use 100% ethanol. Just don't force anything now, first disassemble then clean... Wipe each leaf carefully to remove residue. I use a wooden toothpick to help with assembly. It is hard to do with anything metal (magnetic). Not hard, you just need some time and calmness  Ok, that...

Re: Professional photography kit cleaners- will they be good for old microscopes?
I'd say microscopes are simpler to service than cameras, as cameras are smaller. The only real fiddly part would be the microscope head. A serious mechanic stands behind their work, so whether they' will repair something they don't usually do, I think you must ask them. They might waste too much tim...

It is easier to find a complete working microscope at a good price than all the parts one by one, they add up pretty quickly especially if buying online. ... Just be patient. Zeiss, Nikon, Olympus or Leitz (Leica), American optical, Reichert are the brands that come in mind first to me... Availabili...

Re: Comparison of resolutions of dry 40X Zeiss 160mm objectives with Pleurosira
Great, how do you achieve oblique? Thanks. For brightfield, I set the condenser to the "J" position, set Kohler illumination, then close the condenser diaphragm for proper contrast. As usual. To achieve oblique, I then rotate the turret very slightly anticlockwise (could have done clockwise, it doe...

I guess I'm asking where, in your mind, does "photo-journalism" end and "art" begin and whether or not we should note the difference in our images. Well if you added an organ to a rotifer, probably you should not claim it is a mutation... Post processing is needed because camera can get things wron...

Re: Zeiss GFL compatible objectives?
Hey everyone, I am starting to plan the DIY lighting portion of the microscope. My plan currently is to use the bulb housing as a mount. I have removed the old wiring and would like to fasten this small dimmable LED (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KWGM5PK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A20NP250MG...

Editing is a part of the process. It is up to the author's taste how much and in which direction. You could leave it to the camera processor if you like the results.
I like the image without the shadow more
Digital photographers use software and analog (film) use a darkroom.

Re: Zeiss stand- Help Identify
Pete is right it's a standard GFL, same as mine just with an added accessory between the head and the arm. Probably an Optovar. GFL moves the arm up and down for course focus, unlike WL which moves the stage for both. Therefore it is able to take more (heavy) accessories. WL has an exchangable objec...

Re: Aftermarket trinocular head and 20x eyepiece for a Kyowa SDZ?
I almost bought the same microscope a while ago. Seller started to complicate so I opted out. Looks great. Nice and compact. I'm not sure you'll be able to convert to trinocular... You'll have to use one of the tubes which can yield good results. My Olympus worked good without an eyepiece, with a t2...

Hi and welcome. Turning/moving different parts in the optical path tells you w...

Re: Zeiss GFL compatible objectives?
Delamination sometimes degrades the image quality noticeably, sometimes not. Therefore delaminated objectives don't need to be rejected before trying out, especially if found cheap. For photography, eyepieces and objectives need to be matched. For visual observation, I'm not bothered by a bit of CA ...
