Re: You gotta do this.

Hello and thanks for the idea! I collected some fern (appears to be Polypodium vulgare ) spores in summer but put my hands on them only yesterday. Here's a quick photo of them with COL illumination, CZJ 16x Apo objective, mf-Projectiv 3,2x, Nikon D5200 camera on NfPk microscope. Single frame, also I...

Then may I suggest that ‘legendary’ would be a more appropriate word

MichaelG.
I think "legendary" is more fitting for 60/1,4 Apo, which I've seen being called "godlike" :D

When you say "infamous", is it because they're hard to find, or are there different reasons? :)
It's both hard to find and gives really good picture, especially for nearly 100 years old lens (I think it was developed in 1920's)

Hello, the 60/0.95 is indeed a dry objective, similar to infamous 40/0.95 but much harder to find wspecially in good condition :)

Looking for a good platform for (text-based) blog

Sometimes, and rather often, I think about starting a blog about different things, including metalworking, microscopy, collecting, etc. However, I can't think of suitable platform. Youtube is obvious choice, however I'm not really into video-making, I'd rather prefer text'n'images, old-fashioned way...

Re: Positive Phase Contrast Objective Phase Plates

There also was similar Carl Zeiss Jena device, called Interphako. The principle is relaying objective exit pupil further in order to place phase plate there, so basically it is phase contrast for non-phase objectives. Also there was LOMO КФ-3 device for МИМ-8 metallographic microscope with the same ...

It is also worth mentioning that some mineralogists mention "wrong" interference colours with led lighting on polarizing microscope.

Re: DIC Question

By the way, why didn't anyone thought about simply polishing that damn UV coat away with fine cerium oxide or other polish? I've heard that photographers polish away damaged lens coating from cheap lens this way and it works well.

Re: DIC Question

I have only one question, how to find the back focal plane? https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_there_a_rule_of_thumb_to_determine_the_back_focal_plane_of_objective_lens The method suggested by Paolo Pozzi works really well: shine a laser pointer through the objective and measure the size of the p...

Re: DIC Question

Very interesting subject, will definetely give it a try. I have some experience with metalworking, although at the monent I don't have access to milling machines and lathes. Also I know some people who make scale models of buildings and they must have lots if different polycarbonate sheets. I've rea...

Re: Obscure projection microscope for DIY lovers for sale

That looks very nice! it has the objective built-in right? Or does it go into the eyepiece tube of a stand? Objective is built in, threaded on the end of steel tube, shown as [5] on the plans. I had an idea to try to fit some macro objectives instead but never tried it because it already works good

Obscure projection microscope for DIY lovers for sale

G'day everyone, I have once again decided to sell some less-used equipment in order to fund new projects. Today I have a rather special thing, a Soviet measuring microscope with projection screen, originally used for tool setting for precision CNC machines. Manufactured by FED (ФЭД) plant, more comm...

Re: Selling Rare LOMO AU-26 Optovar Binocular Head

Hello Dmi3n, I have an optovar already - but thank you for making an offer. I hope that you can sell this fine item, since they are hard to come by. I realise that posting is expensive, and Ebay fees take a huge chunk of your profit - so maybe you can sell here privately to someone looking for this...

Re: Selling Rare LOMO AU-26 Optovar Binocular Head

With £60 postage to UK (plus import duty) it's way too costly, so that's a massive potential market closed to you. May consider reducing postal cost, or selling price. Hello, are you interested in buying this head? I can make a discount, how much can you pay for the head + shipping? Maybe we can ma...

Do you think that the revolver - where the objectives screw - could be pillaged and mounted on the nose of another brand?
You mean Nf's 5-position revolver? It will fit later Microval stands and some LOMO stands (but for them it will need some modification), can't say anything about others.

Also I have two spare Auflichtkondensors but they are in bad condition and one of them is currently disassembled. Yes, one question: what's wrong with those Auflichkondensor? I have aforementioned Auflichtkondensor Pol and Nf stand, with 4/10/25/63/100 Planachromat Pol objectives and 25/0,65 Planapochromat, all for infinity/no coverslip, maybe I can answer any questions about it :)

Re: Lomo specs.

Infinite - corrected LOMO planapos are for reflected light only if I recall it correctly. So they will work properly only with no coverslip. Don't know if they are any good, nobody uses them even here in Russia, at least never seen any posts.

Re: Lomo specs.

Hello. I really recommend you to stay away from 160 ones at least. They need special eyepieces with heavy compensation, have low contrast and are very prone to glass separation, not only delamination but the glass itself is often corroded over time. Also the corrected part of field must be small. LOM...

My friend has one Vanox sitting around, absolute beast of a microscope, but I don't know if it's the needed model, binocular head seems built-in, only the camera ports have dovetails.
