Still, from personal experience with 100W (high pressure) lamps, I would prefer a KG3 or even KG5 if available. The data tables show that T% at 800nm of the KG3 and KG1 are ~0.3 and ~0.1, respectively, for the same 2mm thickness.
Good to know, thanks

Re: Zeiss 100w Halogen bulbs

I would try a KG3 filter first. It is thicker than the KG1 hence it blocks more IR. These are absorpion filters, so transparency to IR depends on the thickness. All filters in link are 2mm thick ...? Re: Zeiss 100w Halogen bulbs

Like any other halogen bulb it produces an quite significant amount of IR. This is why those lamp houses came with heat filters. If you have one of the Illuminator 100 lamphouses can you point out the heat filter for me. Only glass between the bulb and the microscope that I can see is the focusing ...

Zeiss 100w Halogen bulbs

.
Anyone have an original 100w bulb 380059‐1660‐000 with box for the illuminator 100 ?

Interested if there are any UV and/or IR warnings on it

These are some I picked up a while ago (they are meant to be equivalent replacements) but have not used yet. Seems to warn about everything!

Re: Leviathan ID (segmented aquatic worm)

Yeah I was doing that the whole time but I was using water from the specimen jar which leaves hard water stains (or could be salt - not sure, this creek does connect to the SF Bay) when it dries so I'm wondering if maybe I was slowly raising the pH over the several days I kept it and was tending to...

Re: Objective hits the glass

Different models of objectives can have different working distances, but I believe 0.1mm is what most of mine are designed for. It also depends on the thickness of the coverslip and how far down into the mountant the structures you're looking at are. That ( in bold ) is the point. Objectives are de...

If you are using a wet mount (i.e. observing Pond life) then you may have too much water under the cover slip.

Thanks very much to everyone for the input. I've sent John B a pm. Usually takes more than 3 posts to be able to PM someone, if you managed it then great. If not, since you can receive PMs as a very new member, then perhaps John can send you one with contact details. As to the microscope, always be...

Re: Leviathan ID (segmented aquatic worm)

I got some more footage of this guy which ended kinda sadly. It just slowed down, stopped, and disintegrated over several hours. At one point, I actually did expect the segments to split off - and they kinda did - but they died soon after. Not sure what happened - maybe it was a pH/osmotic issue on...

Monocular scopes are fine for me because I do not have stereoscopic vision. On a binocular scope I can only focus with one eye at a time so the extra optics is wasted on me.

Very nice!

Can you confirm whether indicated areas are Rimoportulae or Pseudonodulus? (See below)

Also, what process do you use to separate the diatoms from the Diatomaceous earth.

And last but not least, how does your sample offer work?

I'm looking for a vintage monocular microscope. Nothing too fancy. Just something in nice condition with decent optics. Would be nice to have an Abbe condenser. Mirror illumination is OK. Rather than one long worm what you seem to have is a family! I counted 8 buds. I believe it is known as paratonic fission.
