My method to working with soft and porous material is to soak the object in a diluted solution of Elmer's Glass glue. When the object is removed from the solution and dried it is quite workable.

I am not sure what the LED watt to incandescent watt ratio is, but 1 LED watt is approx. 80-100 lumens.

I must have been eating mushrooms when I thought the $2.00 6w LED would replace my halogen light.

I have seen the light!

I tried the LED on a 12VDC switching power supply and it works.
I will somehow put it in an old housing and try it as a light source for my grinding area AJ Optiks microscope.
