Re: Recommendation Camera for Zeiss Axiovert 25CFL with 1x Adapter
Typically 1x adapters are meant for 1" sensors. Maybe one of the options from risingcam would work. It is also possible to just permanently mount a dslr, sometimes at a lower cost.

Is the nikon objective known to be compatible with this system? Not every objective will work, it's actually unusual to have cross compatibility.

Re: AO Sterostar Prism
You might have delamination or oil on one of the lenses. What type of stereostar is it? To figure out where it is you can remove the ryepieces, shine a light through the bottom lenses and look through the eyeholes (careful not to shine the light directly into your eyes so you don't get dazzled).

You just opined: ' not the sellers problem'...well then my sense is : why should I gamble with spending monies in a market where: 'sellers have no control/ no idea of final costs of items they market for sale? I think what you described were not customs fees, but add ons on the seller's end which s...

This isn't super unusual. It's typically meant to act as a finder objective for a 100x oil objective.

It has never once been an issue for me. You might get some sort of customs bill via fedex or ups later on. Zero ssn involvement.

That's usually a good way to sell it for the starting price if at all. Demand for these sorts of objectives is rare and occasional.

Re: Leica M80 Plan Objective
Within a system it may not vary as much, but typically when you move up to the higher tier of objectives (nikon HR, Leica 65mm series etc) working distances drop and resolutions increase since they need to handle higher max magnifications. The resolution on the 1x plan apo on my M10 knocks my socks ...

Re: Has anyone compared Chinese objectives to similar objectives from the Big Four?
Not nearly as relevant as Apo's, but I've done a few head to heads between Mitutoyo objectives and Chinese clones. Mitutoyo isn't one of the traditional big four but they're the big dog in their niche of long working distsnce metallurgical objectives (to the point Nikon has copied their standard for...

Re: What brand of traditional objectives do Chinese objectives mimic?
I think for something to qualify as a 'Zeiss knockoff' it would need to copy an optical system that Zeiss developed, not just be another company whiteboxing from the same optical pool. I guess some do attempt to look like the Primostar line which kind of counts though.

That's a Zeiss-branded Chinese Olympus knockoff though. It iwn't related to any of Zeiss's other in house systems.

I bet your new one is a short barrel. I have one that looks identical which is this way, if so it wants to it a lot lower than your other objectives. Mine also performs very badly.

Yes, the working distance range is part of the spec, though chinese suppliers don't always provide that information.
A good alternstive is a dual gooseneck 100w halogen illuminator or modern LED equivalent. The poseable arms are nice for directing light where it's needed.

But to follow up on the last point you'll likely get acceptable to good results with a wider variety of objectives than you'd expect.

Re: Camera sensor size to see bigger F.O.V.
Mu purpose is seeing bigger field of view. For example when scanning 15mmx15mm area, I have to take 650 photos (0.75mm x 0.55 mm). If I see bigger area for example (like 0.85mm x 0.75mm) I need less image and as a result less time to scan a tissue Of course, but if you're stitching the edge/corner ...

Back in the day film type was a major consideration as well. Having two cameras would allow you to have multiple options on that front. Having access to the infinity image on the aide port allows for adapters using shorter or longer tube lenses rather than a tube lens plus a reducing or expanding le...
