Closing condenser vs. lowering condenser
I noticed those two actions lead to higher contrast and depth of field. But why does lowering the condenser have that effect? Does it limit the light cone?

I wanted to test 3 objectives I have, all 40x. Achro vs Fluor vs PlanAPO. I only do brightfield + darkfield + polarization.
I think I am gonna try insect wings and DVDs. Thanks for all your comments!

Re: Video Editing Software
Actually I just needed some basic annotation tools and curiously, neither openshot or Kdenlive have something like that. I would think many people want to insert some comments on their videos. Davinci has some tools for that (but it is a bit convoluted)

In weird dark polarized lighting that is strangely soothing.

Re: Video Editing Software
Thanks!
I ended up installing Davinci Resolve that manages it quite easily. Kdenlive may get there some day too as they are working on a new text engine. Video editing software don't have powerpoint style capabilities, which is a shame.

Re: Video Editing Software
Guys, how do you annotate your videos? Does your video editing software allow you to do that easily? Like placing arrows and text by drag and drop, Powerpoint style? It is not Kdenlive's forte.

http://media2.giphy.com/media/vp122eOzO0Hxm/200.gif Thanks for your answer. I was trying to make a time lapse of the dead cyclopedia because my suspicion was that it would "turn off" after a while due to death and decomposition. But it take longer than a couple of hours and my microscope was gettin...

Try turn things to see where the artifact comes from. Not sure you have access to the below on your microscope
1/ Eye piece
2/ Objective Lens
3/ Condenser lens
4/ Collector lens
5/ Light source

Well, I had a bottle of them, and saw that video of MicrobeHunter playing with it. I just dissolved some crystals on a slide with a drop of dish soap (may not be necessary if you use alcohol). Adding alcohol will accelerate the process.

Re: 3D vision on a compound microscope???
To be honest I dont bother with binocular microscopes but when I do I find that using your trick of altering the interoccular distance does give a nice and sometimes very useful stereoscopic view. Nice :) Do you notice a big improvement of 1/ smaller inter-ocular distance with the stereo caps over ...

Re: From alpha to omega, and back
Thanks all :) Wow, 3 days - that took a long time to crystallize, some substances are much faster, like tartaric acid (depends on the circumstances). Indeed it took a while. I am still not a master of the process and don't have all the info re kinetics of the crystallization. I think temperature and...

Are you using PETG? Those tend to string and it is hard to be precise with it. You need to sand it down after.
Do you perceive the effect without the stop?
