Those look pretty good, some photos are expected.

Once, I heard some discussion about a black margin around the central disc that would enhance contrast, but I never tried it.

You've motivated me to get creative.

Re: Fixing Microstar 4 Advice

You should use the ESB you have specified.

My LED "kit" has a circuit board, potentiometer, and 3W LED. It has leads for the switch so you can use the existing switch. You can find equivalent items on the web. The 410 is an easy frame to work within because it is relatively large/huge.

Re: Fixing Microstar 4 Advice

I've had good success replacing the original lighting system with a 3W LED. There is plenty of room for everything and it is not a difficult job. I've done well over 100 retrofits on a wide variety of scopes. The 3W LED is a suitable replacement for systems up to 30W halogen.

Re: Reichert Microstar 4

I always liked the 410 series because they were/are easy to use and had good optics. As time passed the presence of a lot of plastic began to show problems where there were no problems in the series 10. With the abundance of creative genius in this group and more and more techno-wizardry any deficie...

Re: B&L SZ4 Does not stay in Focus when Zoomed

The links offered some good information, but did not get to the parfocal operations (at least those I saw). I stored all my equipment many years ago and have not worked on a B&L since... I will dig into the archives to see what I can uncover. There are a few special fixtures, centering eyepieces and...

Re: B&L SZ4 Does not stay in Focus when Zoomed

The objective cells are no longer properly positioned on the slide bars. Until this is done, no other adjustments are going to have any effect.

Re: B&L SZ4 Does not stay in Focus when Zoomed

If what Scarodactyl suggests does not solve the problem, it may be that the objective cells are no longer properly positioned on the slide bars. There were fixtures and jigs available that would facilitate the process, but that was long, long ago.

Today was another day of restoration and again, no photos. The scope of the day was a Yale, made in Japan in the early 60s (comparing to similar instruments of known origin) and an exceptionally nice specimen. The scope is a monocular (draw tube) with a four objective turret, a 1.3 NA condenser, and...

1951 AO

I've been working on "the collection" and I enjoyed the day by doing a complete refurbishing of a 1951 American Optical N15MLHW medical microscope. It was encouraging to see that a little (make that a lot of) work could restore this microscope to what could be new working condition. I said "could be...

I know only one group well enough to speak to their age and most are on the older side (with me). They are getting some interest from some younger folks and that is necessary to keep the group going.

Alexander,

the style of the scope is compatible with B&L and AO models in the early to mid 1920s.

I know there was no connection among the companies, other than the friendly peeking in the other's closet

Re: Leitz Wetzlar serial numbers

Thanks for the list.

The number of the scope is N2225805.

This does not seem to fit the list, but the style of the scope is compatible with B&L and AO models in the early to mid 1920s. The list says SN 222180 is 1924

In my "never to be humble" opinion, the Galen II is one of the best microscopes in its class, but you know that. Tom Jones and PeteM have offered sound advice, based upon a great deal of experience .

I have a couple of BH2 scopes that could be configured as you need them, but I may not have all of what you want.

If you are in the USA and are interested, send me a note.

I worked on a lot of these back when they were a current catalog item.... , but have long since lost the service manuals. The manuals were real books.

Pete's advice is sound. Good tools and a bit of organization at the work bench will serve you well.
