Re: Significance of Difference between No-Name DSLR Adapters?
A couple questions at this juncture as I am actually a bit confused about the trinocular port in general. The Swift comes with a removable tube adapter. In this linked picture , I ask a couple questions, since I thought it easier to ask with a visual. Essentially, I'm unsure why such a tube adapter...

Re: Significance of Difference between No-Name DSLR Adapters?
A while back I posted a comparison of two of these kinds of adapters. Since then I've been using the one sold by Amscope, and it honestly seems like the same one that they're selling on AliExpress. So if I were given the option today, I'd probably get the AliExpress one to save on costs. I haven't h...

Re: Need help deciding between Motic BA310E & Panthera CC
Well, if you end up with a desire to upgrade you can always stalk eBay for deals on Olympus uis objectives which should be compatible. Deals on fluorites and apos do pop up every now and again. Honestly had no idea that I could use other brand objectives. That sounds very appealing, especially if I...

Re: Need help deciding between Motic BA310E & Panthera CC
I shared the same comparison in my original post, they were direct from Motic, and I was a little suspicious myself with the differences being so stark. Either way, I ended up ordering the BA310E already. Only downside is Motic said it won't be delivered till MAY!!!

Re: Is this a Centrohelid?
As you say, the images are not very clear. However, I think it is a clathrulinid, and probably in genus Clathrulina . I think we can just make out the reticulate shell (with polygonal apertures) . The radial members don't appear to be capitate (with little beads at the ends), so it's not a suctoria...

Re: Comparison of AmScope's Plan & Non-Plan Objectives
Would it be best just to invest a few hundred more and get the phase contrast kit then that comes with plan/phase objectives? I'm not familiar enough with AmScope's phase contrast kits to comment on their value. Since you already have the microscope I understand the intention to want to upgrade it,...

Is this a Centrohelid?
I've been looking at an Elodia plant I've had sitting in an unfiltered jar for a couple of weeks. The leaves appear to be covered with many of these stalked microbes that I'm quite unfamiliar with. The microbe itself was unmoving to my eye, and did not react to small passing ciliates. I've never see...

Re: Comparison of AmScope's Plan & Non-Plan Objectives
Dude, did you buy the silver plans or the black coated plans? I am thinking of upgrading mine and getting the black coated plans. I also have the t490B. After all this time has passed sine you upgraded, would you still say it's worth it? How are the amscope plans while looking at living things like...

Re: Need help deciding between Motic BA310E & Panthera CC
Thank you all for your valuable insights. I've decided to go with the BA310E myself. The CC may be newer, but that does not always mean better (although I'm sure it's a very capable scope). The great track record and the light split option sold me on the BA310E in the end. Now I just need to work on...

Need help deciding between Motic BA310E & Panthera CC
I know know... another thread about a Chinese microscope  I'm aware that for the price of these microscopes I can get something much more substantial second-hand, but for logistical reasons I've narrowed down my search for a new microscope between two Motic microscopes, and I'd appreciate some...

I too would like to know about the quality of the strew slide compared to the test slides. I see on their website in both cases they're mounted directly to the coverglass. Hoping someone here has ordered one (or perhaps both) and can shed some light on the subject. I plan on placing an order myself,...

Re: New microscope, choosing drives me crazy
I plan on getting a new microscope some time next month myself, and I too was looking at the Motic BA310E and 410E. I think both have been proven to be very capable microscopes. With the 410E having Fluar and App objectives as an option. If you filter the Motic Blog for this you can find a lot of im...

Safety and Legality of Prepared Pathology Slides
Hi all, I came across this prepared slide kit online, and having never owned any of these before, I wanted to check how safe these are to use, and if there are any known legal concerns when owning these? (Though I assume this is likely country-specific). For example, the prepared slide of Anthrax wo...

While we got this topic going, I'd also like to know why the big four are widely considered better than Motic with regards to buying new microscopes? I frequently see others mention that buying from the big four would be better, but haven't seen anyone provide any visual comparisons. From my (admitt...

They are called "vital" stains and I believe they are much used in fluorescence microscopy. They are not as great as conventional dyes and difficult to differentiate but have the advantage of not immediately killing the subject.

Thank you for the great resource. I'm wondering if it's possible to stain a live specimen without killing it? I think it would be great to observe protists this way, if it is possible at all.
