Many thanks einman.
Options are good.
At some point I really need to get to grips with how connecting cameras really works.
But options are good, and my system is fine...for now

Hi einman. Sadly no I havn't seen a ladybird spider. In fact I hadn't even heard about it. Just looked it up and I can see why you find it interesting. Really cool looking spider. A place called Dorset is where the only population in UK live and this is a fair distance from where I live in Cambridge...

I agree with all. Wonderful story. I got excited when a saw a tardigrade bump into a rotifer one time, but this was a real find. I'm not the first to think it but hobbiest microscopy could really do with some "story" videos. Basically what could catapult the popularity of the hobby would be a David ...

How do you perform stitching?
Hello all. I thought zzffnn's thread on stacking was a good resource for forum members (me included) so I after just making my first stitch (see my spider pic if your interested) I thought I should get the ball rolling with imageJ. So, as I mentioned in the the stacking thread, imageJ is free and ma...

I still haven't got an id as I need to photograph its mouth parts more closely, I'm hoping when I do its underside I'll be able to. Stacked using zerine stacker done with x4 plan achro usi...

Re: A Couple of Copepods
Cool slide.
That looks like you bought it? Any pointers on its supply. Maybe its "name" might help here as I'm UK based and might not be able to get from a US supplier, although looking at US site might be enough for me to try to work from details and try to search for UK/EU supplier.

Really lovely. You've caught its colours against the darkfield really well, orange and red. Nice.
How did you pin the cyclops? I used methylcellulose to immobise but don't know any other techniques for shooting live critters.

Re: making first permanent slide
Another good way in for some interesting images and slides that are fairly permenant is to get a linear polariser lens (the ones for cameras work fine as long as they a linear polarisers). You will need a second linear polariser as well. One will go over the field lens (one that is part of the lamp ...

Thanks Rod. The mix of the saffarin and citric acid ended up with more saffarin around' the edges giving a horizon like effect. The inside of1 the slide, near the edge of the cover slip was dominated by needles of citric acid whilst the citric acid crystals in the more saffarin concentrated outside ...
