This one has a tilting base, so that can help with the neck anyway.

Re: 23mm diameter 10x/22 eyepieces (!)

Yeah, Olympus bh2 era objectives are on the low end of correcting (at least for chroma) but it's still needed. I have seen setups with the b&l 15x ultra wf eyepieces on olympus stands--not sure how well the compensations match but it may be a better option for imax-like viewing.

Re: Possibly the most affordable midlife crisis I could have :)

It's only a little busted. Sounds like it takes a standard 42mm head. The hard bit is removing the bent set screw if it won't come willingly, but worst case you remove it unkindly and retap the hole to accept a wider thumb screw.

Unlike objectives, eyepieces can typically be carefully disassembled, cleaned and put back together. You might also be able to remove the reticle in the olympus eyepiece.

Re: Afocal setup with small USB sensor?

the other type, like this Leitz 0.1x, is a different thing: it needs to be mounted after the photo eyepiece the photo eyepiece was designed for, like, 35mm film format, and this 0.1x extra adapter focuses the image nearer and smaller, to fit into a small CCD chip it works as "close up lens" for the...

Looks like it works pretty well.
I have a Leitz '0.1x' c mount adapter that must go over an eyepiece for afocal. I haven't tried it but it makes sense that some of the big dogs would have tried this approach

Re: Bausch & Lomb SZ4 to SZ7 differences?

This model was made for a long time across two changes of management and one change of venue, so some variation in the design over the years is possible. Leica did make a couple minor changes, including a nicer zoom knob and a different material for the dust guards whuch doesn't decay like the origi...

Re: Stereoscope comparison (AmScope vs Vision Scientific)

Just for the sake of the completeness of this thread, the parfocal ZM line stereo zoom head is ZMDG6745T, which is sold separately. All other heads in the ZM line AmScope stereoscopes are not parfocal, as of last week. This is definitely incorrect, though it would not be surprising at all for an am...

Ohh yeah, reducing mag isn't going to work that way.
I hate to say it but you prpbably need a stereo that's a little more advanced and can accept auxiliary lenses. These student scopes can be a great deal but aren't exactly versatile.

Re: trying to change magnification on an old American Optical Forty

The eyepieces maybe, sometimes these didn't use conventional eyepirces but you might find 15x eyepieces for an AO stereostar fit and work fine (the size would be 23.2mm though, not 24). That will only enlarge the existing image but not resolve more detail. The objectives will not be to any particula...

Thr AO forty is a student scope, badically a vety simpligied version of their main stereo line. I am not sure if there's much customization possible on them.

It must be similar in broad strokes, but the queation is wht optics it was made for. Thr lmscope adapter is basically a teleconverter, it has some enlarging optics built in to grab the image and put it on your dslr's sensor. All I can think is that Wild must have had a projection style photo eyepiec...

Re: Mystery Wild photo tube

This would be from the 80s, some people from the 80s are still alive. Your standard Wild photo port would be 38mm in ID, thrn insert an adapter which takes a 23mm or 30mm eyepiece (or later, a specialized photoeyepiece for stereos) and has a 40mm OD for parts like this to clamp onto. Usually it woul...

They'd fit on a standard photo mount with an eyepiece slot and 40mm od, but they don't seem to have a mount for a lens. I don't think Wild ever made projective eyepieces, but maybe they did at some point?

With newer nikon screws they have a good chance of stripping even with the right driver. They have found the softest, butteryest metal possible for them.

Re: Spec for Objectives: Terminology

DoF is depth of field, which is what you want (directly related to numerical aperture). Depth of focus happens after the objective and is basically how thick the plane is where the image is in focus. Higher NA optics have a narrower depth of field, but a woder depth of focus, which is why high mag o...

Yeah, it looks to me like the nikon nosepiece prisms are 1k or 1.6k usd depending on n1 or n2, and the condenser prisms are 1k and up, while the olympus ones on eBay are 1.2k for the slider and 250ish for the objective prisms. Not a huge savings for sure unless you want to make a full dic setup with...

My setup is similar, though I don't have the focusable stage. Seems like a neat idea. I doubt you'll find someone who did this specific combination. Looking again the slider is a normal doc slider, and a couple of the objective prisms aren't marked for water immersion. But of course that all requires more research.
